These are a very common sight here in Portugal as well as in other EU countries I have visited. I love them so much! The symbol appears in Judaism, Christianity, and Islam, so they have many names. Here they are usually called the Hand of Fatima, a talisman of protection. This one is exquisite!

I was just thinking yesterday about the housing protests here in Portugal & the 37 people brutalized by the police, including 2 with serious injuries & how this is yet another reason the public health system is so important. Police violence must concern everyone, because everyone pays for it.
