Kann bitte jemand mit Reichweite diese beschissene Faustregel töten!

Joachim L. Dagg @jdagg.bsky.social · 13/09/2026

@maithinkx.bsky.social Betrifft dein musstewissen Video "Was ist Elektronegativität?" ΔEN(Fluorwasserstoff) = 1,9; trotzdem Moleküle. ΔEN(Kupfer(I)-iodid) = 0,6; trotzdem Ionenverbindung etc. Es gibt zu viele Ausnahmen von der Regel + polare Atombindungen reichen nicht aus für Dipolmolekül.

Sorry for disagreeing, but the quote "a pseudoproblem invented by nature-philosophers to give biology an air of profundity" yields no result referable to Medawar in a standard search engines (like Google), at all. Arvid Argen can give us a proper ref, I'm sure, he now must!, why not from the start?

He cannot really have addressed Michael Ruse with "you" in this snippet, for Ruse was no proponent of Gaia, I think.

#ein_tag_im_september Sorry, but when I hear about De Gaulle & Adenauer or Mitterand & Kohl forming personal bonds and that being a boon to democracy and freedon, I immediatly think of Trump, Putin, Xi or Kim forming personal bonds. It's not the personal bonds but the ideas of the bodning people.

Do you agree that W.D. Hamilton used "selfish gene" differently from Dawkins? For Hamilton, a selfish gene was a chunk of DNA that coded for selfish behaviour of the organism (vehicle or interactor). For Dawkins it was "selfishness", even against the vehicle, if that promoted replication.

Congrats! I gather that the principle of divergence is a minor topic (from not being in the conclusion). Would your writing have suffered from citing some of the publications on that principle (e.g., Kohn, Tammone). Is your interpretation so new that discussing theirs would have led into arcania?

Probably smooth. Just quickly checked my adaptationists (e.g. Maynard Smith) for claimed vilification, but only found a citation of Huxley in Williams. Wish Gould’s sentence would’ve been shorter but with references.

Joachim L. Dagg @jdagg.bsky.social · 25/05/2025
Huxley (1953) defined progress as "improvement wich permints further improvement" and said it is "difficult to prophesy the detailed course it will have", but, "once we can look back on the facts we reallize that it could have happened in no other way."

Joachim L. Dagg @jdagg.bsky.social · 25/05/2025
The gist of this long sentence: Deep homologies, like Hox genes, forced historical and structural constraints into evolutionary theory. The panglossian to beat here is Julian Huxley (1953, Evolution in Action), I guess. Can't be GC Williams and Dawkins had written his chap. 3 in Extended Phenotype.

Sorry, but I have to reject your decision tree. I thinkt that science education should enable the learners to judge any scientific publication on its own merits. That requires an understanding and judgement of its actual content. Your decision tree doesn't require engagement with the actual content.

If you miss the dash, the answer reads: "No evidence for evolution is overwhelming." That will make evolutionists click as well as anti-evolutionists. I call that well-crafted.

The authors think they could use Ifigenia males to control Anopheles gambiae populations. As I see it, they would either pass the gene for the Cas9 on with one of their chromosomes 2 or the gene for the Cas9 guiding-RNA with the other. Unless they deposit Cas9 in their sperm, it should not work.

#malaria #crispr Why should this to work in the wild? doi.org/10.1126/scia.... ♀️ gFLE/+ seem to die, because their Cas9/+ mothers deposit endonuclease Cas in eggs and their fathers inherit the gene for guiding-RNA. Yet Ifigenia males are heterozygous with gFLE on one chr 2 and CAS9 on the other.

It's not irredeemable. Their literary example from Mrs Dalloway does not show multiple conflicting perspectives either, but consilient perspectives. If they swapped terms, here, and served up around ten exampels from experimental reports of consilient perspectives being given, I mith be swayed.
000
Joachim L. Dagg @jdagg.bsky.social · 24/06/2024
They note that the authors of the experimental report shift between their actions and nature's answers. That are not two perspectives to me, but a "we-said-she-said" narrative (one perspective). Eve if I let it pass as two perspectives, they'd not be contraictory but corresponding, IMHO.
110
Joachim L. Dagg @jdagg.bsky.social · 24/06/2024
I also liked the idea of analysing research papers as narratives. Yet, "presenting data from multiple conflicting perspectives" seems a patently self-defeating strategy vis-à-vis peer reviewers. Also, their one example from an experimental report does not seem to warrant the claim. 1/2
