i have a running bit where I send cheap (like, less than $2) steam keys for Stupid Bullshit to my friend while I'm in VC and watch his reaction as he sees what nonsense starts installing. he's one of those people who HAS to finish every game he owns so it's worth it. Sent his ass to Gorky 17.

for reference, here are some pics of my floor (the basement) in order of ominousness. sent some to a friend and they said "if I was living there I would kill myself" which I think is a bit harsh but fair. one of the walls in my room even had ratman-esque scrawlings from previous tenants.

reminds me of when I was moving away for uni, the online pics of the dorm rooms were very unhelpful for getting a sense for the size of the room, so I recreated it in hammer (well, the s&box version). I don't think it's a coincidence it looks like your decrepit ass closet. it wasn't a great place...

my introduction to tokusatsu was a 1am discord call where my friend who is a massive tokusatsu fan streamed the first three episodes of Kamen Rider Black. In episode 2 when that guy turns into a "cheetah" (a dog with spots painted on it) we all stood up and cheered like it was the superbowl

The sound design is so good I've basically just been playing it like a multiplayer Thief game. *Everything* has an associated audio cue, which means if you're being careful, you will usually know where other players are and what they're doing before you see them.

So, overall, I don't really mind nuMarathon as a reinterpretation of the cartoony 90s graphics (especially M1). I think the new visual identity they've created is a lot stronger than the original games, which to be clear, didn't have bad art, it just wasn't the high point tbh.

He started out making Marathon fan art, and was commissioned by Bungie to do the chapter screens for later titles and art for physical releases, but they didn't really change the games' art style to account for his more gritty tone.

And as great as Craig Mullins' art is, it also isn't *that* representative of what the actual games look like. Marathon 1 could be very drab at times, but also had a lot of striking colour in the sprites and some textures. Marathon 2 has a lot more visual variety as well.

I love Kamen Rider Black because every 30 seconds there's something that has you saying "this is awesome (ironic)" followed immediately by "this is awesome (unironic)" In episode 2, there's a guy who can turn into a cheetah except it's glaringly obvious they just painted spots on a dog and it rules

Even if the new game is a visual departure from the OG trilogy, that short definitely captured the feel. I hope they can keep it up with the storytelling in the game itself, but it seems like they're saving it for the full launch in September.
