So, sat down and drew basic versions of the Landing Barge and the basic EUAF utility vehicles in #openscad . Tthey feature in my #TotalWar #scifi setting. These things are pretty massive with a max take off weight of around 6000 tonnes. But I have to choose a #camo scheme. Thoughts? #sff #booksky

Two shots of different camouflage schemes for the landing barges that feature in my uocoming book, Dropship Down.

Of course, while putting maps into a 3D game engine, I couldn't resist trying to build one of the scenes from #TheHalfElvenOrphan from #TalesOfVatan. Still needs more detail, but the vibe is there. jceberdt.eu/temptations-... #godot #worldbuilding #booksky #sff #fantasy #indieauthor

Bit more progess on the mapping front. Here you can see the projected maps and the resulting OGIS layer (first image). First editing functions are in, can place towns, roads, rivers and bring altitude up and down. #booksky #godot #worldbuilding #maps #TalesOfVatan #fantasy #sff #ogis #indieauthor

The data extracted into OGIS and reprojected on the globe.

Westmarch local map (even more detail) overlayed on the mid-size projected map. The projections analysed wtith Claude Code to make the OGIS layer.

Biggest projection and a smaller one with more detail. All projected on a globe with vatans dimetnisions. Climate bands are just visitble.

Always an issue when you want things to make sense. Currently trying to make a tool that builds random plausible, founded in science, star systems with planets in the habitable band. The problems one runs into when writing scifi I suppose.

My writing has to make engineering sense for me to enjoy it. H2 tanks outboard, because H2 is light and has less influence on rotation, O2 tanks near the centreline, because heavy has less impact there.

I'm curious how they worked out driver/distance. Vehicle/distance isn't that hard, but driver/distance? What records is that based on exactly? In which areas, time of day, etcetera? What other sorts of crashes exist (I believe crashes with emergency vehicles are a documented problem)?
