Spending today painting imaginary people in an imaginary setting with an imaginary light source with my imaginary brush and palette on my virtual canvas. Could not have imagined this as my life as a kid.
A snippet of a virtual canvas rough draft painting in soft pastel colors.

Coming summer 2027 from Islandport: SOME WISHES by @alisongoldberg.bsky.social and myself. Can’t wait to share this book with all of you!
Alexandra Hinrichs at Islandport Press has acquired world rights to Some Wishes by Alison Goldberg (l.), illustrated by Jeanette Bradley. This rhyming story explores the power of wishes and the many ways we make them through the lens of a child experiencing serious illness. Publication is scheduled for summer 2027; the author represented herself, and Emily Mitchell at Wernick & Pratt Agency represented the illustrator.

Monday morning work from home fun: city has parked tree chipping machine right outside. Vibrations coming up from ground shake the whole house with each branch fed into the grinder. Trying to revise complex nonfiction. Brain feels like it’s inside a cocktail shaker. 💃🏻🪩🕺🏽

ORPHANED CATS NEED FOREVER HOME IN NORTHEAST (PLEASE READ *ENTIRE* THREAD) My wife's childhood friend died Thursday, leaving his two *mildly* special-needs cats. The elder, Wally, is about 13. ABSOLUTELY affectionate cat; GLORIOUSLY dim. His only issue is that he poops in bathtubs if given a chance

The bleakest part of the robot-and-AI teacher push to me is that billionaires send their kids to Waldorf schools where kids play with wooden blocks and silk play scarves and go for nature walks and don’t use any technology at all. They know.

Things I didn’t predict when I chose children’s book illustration as a career: *decline in illustration payment rates *development of plagiarism technology (aka AI) *M*GA *M*GA targeting #kidlit & education *decline in reading across all ages *robot teachers/AI classrooms

Thinking of starting a #snailmail letter club (subscription to an analog monthly physical letter with art prints, stickers etc) What would interest you more: (1) thoughts on living a creative life w/ art & writing prompts, or (2) a serialized contemporary fantasy story told through letters?

2/2 Every child deserves to find that deep connection and feeling of being seen in a book. Maybe it’s in humor, maybe it’s in a reference book about the periodic table, or in an “I love you/you have value” story that some adults see as “crud” We are all different, kids included.

As a creator of (NF & F) #kidlit books Barnett would label “didactic,” I’ve seen kids hug my books or cry seeing themselves represented on the page. I get emails from parents saying my book is their child’s lovey. Kids fall in love with books that touch their soul’s truth. 1/2
