Hi, Kirk, Some I enjoyed preaching in the past were Habits of Grace, The Trinity, and a series that gives an overview of the whole Bible.

I loved your exhortation, "If you are a creator of any kind, lean into your embodied abilities and resist the pull of A.I. alternatives." In the past I've thought, "Oh, I'll just let Chat help me a little with ______," but that impulse ruins the whole enterprise of creative work. Thanks!

Yikes! My enthusiasm for IA has been plummeting (grading a bunch of students' papers didn't help!). I also don't hear many people talking about how much energy it uses.

For me #8 y #9 have been of great help, and I usually read a harder book while I eat breakfast every morning. I have found #11 helps even if it's just reading along with a substacker who comments each week on a book (I did it with The Republic by Plato and it kept me motivated and I learned more.)

Thanks for this, Irina. I would say that God's giving the Israelites a shabbat reminds us that we are limited, and that we should embrace that limitedness. Trying to "produce" is if we were machines shrivels our humanity and sucks the joy out of life.

Thanks, Alan! I've found your writing encouraging. In fact, I think you've encouraged me enough to start writing a book myself. I've said that a few times in my life, but I think I have the tools and motivation to make it happen, once I get out of the heavy part of this semester. Blessing!

I love the variety of Scripture. I definitely find the epistles the easiest genre to preach from, but as far as reading I like them all (law being the hardest for me).

Johnson reminds me of one of my favorite sayings in Spanish, «Cada loco con su tema». Lit. "Every crazy guy with his topic." or "To each their own" maybe. Thanks for pointing us to Christ and the gospel!

I read a small part of Miguel de Unamuno's poem, «El Cristo de Velázquez», with my students last week. It made me think of Four Quartets by T.S. Eliot. It's a long poem that rewards deep reading. Here are a couple of interesting lines:

I'm finishing up teaching a course on Eschatology & Revelation. Of any doctrine this is the one that requires more understanding of the whole Bible. I was privileged to teach, but I have a long way to go to say I have a grasp on everything!

Starting to get the web site up to speed with reality, that @appianway.bsky.social is focusing on automating translations of ancient Greek authors into readable English editions. Do check it out, and do feel free to ask me any questions.

I think that's pretty cool. I had thought about similar projects with Greek or Spanish, but I lack the technical knowledge to make it work. I used to translate quotes for courses I teach, but now I just use ChatGPT and polish what it produces.

I haven't done a Read the Bible in a Year plan in ages, since I've been reading a lot slower in Hebrew and Greek. For 2025 I've decided to use a Catholic Bible reading plan so I can finally force myself to read the Apocryphal books (I've started them several times and never finish.)

I'm challenged by the pure joy of Thomas Traherne in Centuries of Meditations. He marveled in small, everyday graces. For example, "Is not sight a jewel? Is not hearing a treasure? Is not speech a glory?" p. 29, Kindle version

I finally finished Assimil's book for Hebrew. If you get the MP3s, this is a good way to improve your Hebrew. My only suggestion for making it better would be to make it a story instead of just 85 isolated conversations.

I find it fascinating that the phrase ἃ δεῖ γενέσθαι only appears in Dan 2:28-29, 45 (LXX), and Rev 1:1; 4:1; 22:6. I suppose that it depends on what you do with Daniel, but this seems like good evidence to read to read Revelation futuristically. Any thoughts? @svigel.bsky.social

I read your article on slow teaching with Gawain. I teach a lot online, so I was very interested in your method. I'm torn between working slowly through a text and wanting to vary things up in my classes to take advantage of what they call interleaving in the education world.
