I absolutely LOVE this concept! This would be so much better than stilted Alexa chats, or Siri offering to show me if I ask the question again on my phone.

I can’t be the only developer who sees the word AI and inside screams “oh, fuck off!” I use AI to debug because I like how it can trawl through data at speed. But AI is not smart, it’s killing the planet, it’s made me sceptical of all I see and read online, and it’s making rich people richer.

How common is academic plagiarism? - LSE Impact
Drawing on an international survey on research integrity Nick Allum & Robin Brooker find previous work on plagiarism has underestimated its prevalence.

For anyone who thinks Jason Arday wasn’t hounded because he was black, I’ll just leave this here. With over 3 million papers submitted every year, this interest in the ‘truth’ would have meant plagiarism in academia should have been front page news. Every day. For decades.
A recent meta-analysis (combining the results of multiple previous studies) estimated that 2.9 percent of researchers had admitted to plagiarism or other types of misconduct – falsification or fabrication of data. Another study estimates that 1.7 percent of researchers have plagiarised while 30 percent have witnessed others plagiarising. This discrepancy might be due to individuals’ reluctance to admit their own misconduct and the greater likelihood of observing others’ behaviour.

I’ve been an Economist subscriber in the past, I’ve enjoyed the journalism and what used to be balanced output. But with everything happening on the right it does smack of an agenda when you focus so much on the left.

A month ago I was bemoaning the state of @sanity.io - I was wrong. I’ve just spent the past couple of days setting up a new site & getting to grips with all the new features. Sanity haven’t spread themselves thin. They’ve made an epic platform to build… ANYTHING! 🥰 🤓 🧑‍💻

TBH I have really struggled since the move to Vite (I've been following Sanity for a while!) - one error I found was with the icon for the Studio (can't find the page now!). This had tsx code in a ts file - copied straight from the docs. I had to create a tsx component.

Anyone else feel that @sanity.io has lost its way a bit? I still love it, and the team behind it. But the quality feels like its dipped as they try to do so much. I spend more time debugging than I do building 😢

Here’s a thought: maybe don’t replace the nuclear weapons, because they are F**KING EVIL. Article from the Economist.
Mark Rutte, the secretary-general of NATO, told the European Parliament that Europe would still rely on America for its future defence, and that if anyone thought Europe could defend itself they should "keep on dreaming".
Europe would have to spend more than the 5% of GDP on defence it has pledged, he said; replacing nuclear weapons would cost billions.
