Using Plant Invasions to Compare Occurrence‐ and Abundance‐Based Calculations of Biotic Homogenisation: Are Results Complementary or Contradictory?
Aim Beta diversity quantifies the similarity of ecological assemblages. Its increase, known as biotic homogenisation, can be a consequence of biological invasions. However, species occurrence (prese...

Pope Francis leaves behind a legacy of compassion, courage, and a continuing call to protect our common home and all who share it with us. In his 2023 exhortation, Laudato Deum, he spoke out strongly against those who reject what science tells us about climate and deny their own responsibility. 🧵

nearly 11% of the NSF workforce was fired today. this WILL slow scientific progress. this is hurting families. we need to educate folks about all the GOOD that the gov't can do! To help @500womensci.bsky.social has made social media cards for what #NSF funds in each state: bit.ly/NSF_bystate

1/n Please see our new paper in Nature Communications! We used 1,851 tree-ring fire-scar sites and contemporary fire perimeters to quantify the prevalence of wildfire from 1600-1880 compared to 1984-2022. 🧪🌍🔥 Our key findings are as follows ...

I love this graph but I'd like to see the amount left to just flow through. You could assume that it's the 4% that's going to hydroelectric uses. The categories themselves leave 1% unaccounted for. So best case guess, 5% of the river makes it to the ocean....
