Sort of. Until Wright started talking again. Piker has a much larger platform than Wright ever had. If AES goes the Obama route, it will be a matter of minutes before Piker says something and the Katy Turs of the world are all over him saying "What about this? Do you still disown him???".

He handled it right. The minute you cede ground, by disassociating yourself from Piker or debating whether he's an antisemite or whatever, you're opening the door to "OK, what about (some other bogeyman)?" Don't play their game, call them out and project strength. It's the smart play.

It's a tremendously useful contraction, not just an affect. It's gender neutral (as opposed to "you guys") and far less awkward than "you folks" or "you all". Here in New Orleans, if you pass a group of people, you're expected to ask "how y'all doing?". No one checks if you were born a yankee.
