New novel (though not a recent publication) for reading on the way to my Mum, is The House of the Spirits by Isabel Allende. I've read some of her later novels, but this is her first and is already captivating me with its combination of humour, magic, and tragedy. A brilliant author

Nigella Lawson's Guinness cake in the oven. For fans of #GreatBritishBakeOff #GBBO the bakers made a mess of it by trying to make it fancy. I don't think it needs improving, normally comes out well. First time in our oven at new house though so we shall see. #birthdaycake

Very sad to have finished Vianne by @joannechocolat.bsky.social a magical delight for all the senses, now need to choose the next novel to read. The choice is The Heron's Cry by Ann Cleeves, murder mystery in North Devon, or the Order of Darkness series by Phillipa Gregory. Very different!

Have you come across The Summer We Crossed Europe by Train by Kazuo Ishiguru @joannechocolat.bsky.social He wrote songs before novels and he goes back to that by writing lyrics for jazz singer Stacey Kent. There is then a link in the book to recordings on a variety of platforms (not train ones!

Going to performance of songs and poems tomorrow, wife has been asked to read Déjeuner de Matin by Prévert in French and English. Minimalist and quite sad account of man sitting opposite a woman, pouring, stirring and drinking coffee then leaving without a glance or word to the lady.

Nice location for a conference dinner! Pallazo Re Enzo in Bologna for the World Congress of Music Therapy. Back down to earth now waiting for the slow train to Exeter to leave. I didn't realise it was a sleeper, I just have a seat for next 3.5 hours (2 hours longer than flight from Bologna!)

Not sure if this is a good or a bad thing but most times I go to a charity shop I spot a novel by @joannechocolat.bsky.social Yesterday it was the Lollipop Shoes, before that Blackberry Wine. I hope someone enjoys them as much as I did

A client shared this song today (another one has before) and it reminds me a bit of Broken Light by @joannechocolat.bsky.social as it describes the different rooms in his mind where he stores trauma. With this client the rooms can be represented by figures in a sand tray youtu.be/hogpS9l77ts?...

My little win today, that gives me a disproportionate amount of satisfaction. Writing a discharge letter for a client, getting Word to review it and getting a 100% Editor score. These are the kind of things that make me feel happy and slightly smug!

The next 2 novels in the queue once I finish Isabel Allende's Long Petal of the Sea. I like plenty of variety and haven't read a Tom Holt in years. Wonderfully daft and clever at the same time. Both from a charity shop in the seaside town of Sidmouth

Another gift from a client, to my colleague and me by a man attending a group I ran. He gave us this painting, created with sponges, at the end of the group. It features him and his inner child looking over the river into sunset/sunrise. Stunning, we had no idea of his gift, not sure he did!

“In 2017 there was not a single asylum seeker who arrived on a boat. Today we have 46,000 a year and do you know why? It was because of the botched Brexit deal pushed through by Boris Johnson and championed by Nigel Farage. Nigel Farage should be here apologising” Daisy Cooper

Wonderfully delusional statement from House Leader Mike Johnson about Trump wanting a 3rd term: I understand why so many Americans do wish that he could run for a third term, because he's accomplishing so much in this first 100 days that they wish it could go on for longer". Not sure that's true
