Oh Jane, hang in there. My sis and I often say we probably would be happier if instead of actively being socially and politically engaged we just lived in ignorant bliss. So far we've not succumbed to the latter.

“The question is not whether we can afford to remain within the Convention [ECHR]. It is whether, in an increasingly dangerous world, we can afford not to” Political liars and lightweights, like Badenoch and Farage, must never be allowed to take that risk. www.lawgazette.co.uk/commentary-a...
The Law Society
Gazette

In short, if Britain were to leave the ECHR, it would not be
'taking back control. It would be surrendering influence over the rules and institutions that help keep us safe.
The debate about the ECHR is too often conducted as though it were a choice between national sovereignty and international law. That is a false choice.
The Convention advances British interests because it reflects British values: liberty under law, democratic government and the accountability of power.
Walking away would not make Britain freer. It would make Britain weaker.

There can only be one option on the table. Full EU membership. 💷 £92bn for our economy. 📈 £43bn extra exports each and every year. ⬆️ Growth in every postcode, region, and nation of the UK. 🇬🇧 628/632 constituencies in favour. 🗳️ Stops Farage getting to No10. It really is a no brainer.

🍌 No, the EU didn't cripple us with 'bendy fruit' red tape. 🥒 @hulldailymail.co.uk 📰 letter debunks a Boris Johnson 'bananas' tabloid myth reused in the #Brexit debate. 🤥 Shape of our veg won't change when we #RejoinEU - but our economy will be in better shape! 🏋️ #Hull #Yorkshire #UKPolitics 👇
A scanned newspaper clipping from the letters page of Hull-Live.co.uk dated Friday, September 18, 2026. The headline reads "Exaggerated red tape claim is just bananas".

The letter defends a recent YouGov poll showing 61% think Brexit is a failure, 57% think it was a mistake, and 55% want to rejoin. It then mocks the 1990s tabloid myth of "straight bananas and cucumbers" peddled by journalists like Boris Johnson, noting the EU never banned curved fruit but merely adopted international grading standards.

The piece argues that politicians lied about fictional straight bananas while tearing up frictionless trade and crippling UK exporters with red tape. The letter concludes: "The shape of our fruit and veg will not change when we rejoin. But our economy will be in better shape."

"Reform UK’s car crash" 💥 #Farage claims no laws broken after #ReformUK officials caught discussing illegal foreign money. ⚖️ But letter in today's @bradfordtanda.bsky.social 📰 says not good enough: "Politicians need to know right from wrong - not just legal & illegal." 🧑‍⚖️ #UKPolitics #RejoinEU
A scanned letter to the editor published in the Bradford Telegraph & Argus on Wednesday, September 9, 2026, headlined "Reform UK's 'car crash'". The letter criticises Nigel Farage's dismissal of a Channel 4 undercover sting where senior Reform UK staff discussed channelling a £500,000 foreign donation through a UK resident to avoid detection. The author highlights Farage's defense that no laws were broken, arguing that if true, donation laws urgently need updating. It concludes that regardless of the law, the UK needs politicians who know right from wrong, not just legal from illegal.

The polling company JL Partners is unwilling to follow the rules, so should not be in the polling council. Also the Telegraph appears to have lied about the provenance of the poll it published. Even if they didn't know that Reform commissioned it, it was dishonest to suggest it was a Telegraph poll.

Iceland is not in the EU, but it is a member of the Schengen area. It’s also a member of the European Free Trade Association (EFTA) and is part of the Single Market, meaning it enjoys freedom of movement with the EU. Good to know that doesn’t impact their independence. Maybe we should try it, Nige.
