Grafana MCP plus Clickhouse really making it easy to put dashboards together these days huh... Here's a quick overview of the AT Proto ecosystem over the past 24 hours.
A Grafana-style dark-themed monitoring dashboard for AT Protocol (Bluesky) firehose data. Four top-level stats show: Total Records at 33.4 million, 481 Distinct Collections, 1.53 million Distinct Repos, and 23.2K Records/min. Below are two horizontal bar charts: "Top Collections by Record Count" showing app.bsky.feed.like leading at 21.5 million, followed by app.bsky.feed.post at 4.11 million and app.bsky.feed.repost at 3.73 million; and "Distinct Repos per Collection" with app.bsky.feed.like again leading at 1.19 million repos. The bottom section displays a "Collection Activity Over Time" stacked area chart spanning roughly 24 hours, showing peak activity around 20:00–22:00 reaching ~35K records, with a trough in the early morning hours around 08:00–10:00. A legend table on the right lists per-collection statistics including mean, max, and total values for collections like app.bsky.graph.block, app.bsky.feed.repost, and app.bsky.feed.post.

And the hyperscalars are pushing up prices. 2x-ing peered egress is big. They don't want you leaving. I've also been seeing a lot of signs of AWS and GCP going out of stock of a ton of SKUs in the US (both committed VMs and baremetal instances) for the forseeable future. This is gonna hurt.

Something is coalescing....
Log-Structured Virtual Disk (LSVD) Architecture

Rust + SPDK + monoio (Thread-per-Core) Implementation

This document outlines the architecture for a high-performance Log-Structured Virtual Disk system targeting:

- 10,000 virtual disks per host
- Sub-millisecond latency on small random writes and hot reads
- S3-compatible object storage as durable backend
- Integration with ContainerD (via ublk) and Cloud-Hypervisor (via vhost-user)

Key Architectural Decisions:

- monoio thread-per-core async runtime (not tokio) for predictable latency
- ublk for container block devices (not NBD) for ~5μs overhead
- SPDK for local NVMe cache access (kernel bypass)
- Partitioned state - each core owns a subset of vdisks, no cross-core locking

What if you had `top` snapshotting the busiest processes on every host in your fleet every 5 seconds, exporting it to a receiver that sticks it in Clickhouse for you and makes it trivially queryable across the whole fleet in a Grafana dashboard or exposed so you can write automations around it?

It really is just so ridiculously tiny That's a standard ATX case (Fractal North) not some kinda XL desktop or anything. The chip in the Framework is holding its own in games through Proton too wow... Not yet missing my 3080 but we'll see how long that lasts. Roughly 1/8 the size of the North
Framework desktop next to a Fractal North. it's half as long, less than half as tall, less than half as wide. Both sit in the floor.Framework desktop superimposed in front of a Fractal North. It takes up maybe one quarter of the side profile, so it's 1/8 the size accounting for the width too.

okay the Framework Desktop is real tiny and I love it running arch for now and after a fwupd was able to get the wifi-7 chip doing a full symmetrical gigabit played some games on it too and it's been good so far, need to see if i can get WoW running on it next can of monster for scale
framework desktop on a desk with a can of lo-carb monster beside it, the desktop is roughly 33% taller than the can, maybe 50% wider, and you could line up 3.5 cans standing up side by side to match the desktop depth

There's publicly observable data from the AT Proto event firehose that shows the dip during the halftime show and then the massive spike at the end when everyone tuned in to post about it and like posts about it. Read-side traffic (which isn't publicly observable) saw a similar spike.
Graph of events per second and records per second on the atproto firehose. You can see a slight ramp from 750 evt/sec to ~860 evt/sec during the first half of the game, then a dip to 722/sec during the halftime show and a spike to 1.43k evt/sec after the halftime show (~100% increase).

During the spike, posts nearly doubled in new posts per second and likes more than doubles in new likes per second.

This is what it looks like when you all watch the boxing match together and take a little break from posting and liking things until the time between rounds where everyone checks in with their friends. Then after the match y'all go back to posting and liking things as usual. Pretty damn neat.

Wild to realize Bluesky has more than doubled its user count in <2 months to 12.5M users. Growth is kinda crazy, the spikes are significantly larger now and despite having 6M users 2 months ago we're still capable of this kind of massive growth in such a short time. Glad to have you all here.
