I’m late to the This Is Lorelei party. And I’m pretty certain that Nate Amos created both a favorite album of the year (”The Singer in My Band”) and a favorite concert experience.

I don’t know how I missed The Beths in 2019, but glad to finally see them. What a fun band! The humor and stage design felt like a cross between Flight of the Conchords and @guster.bsky.social .

@emilymandel.bsky.social continues to wreck my bedtime. I could not put “Exit Party” down. Her worldbuilding is exceptional. While the book stands on its own, fans of her prior novels are rewarded with Easter eggs. Enjoy!

Caitlin Moran: social media went from utopia to hellhole in a decade – if you want to feel hopeful again, get offline

It takes two to have a conversation. As someone sitting in the audience, I very much appreciate your ability/willingness to pivot and run with something interesting that the author says that isn’t on the outline. The George Saunders chat was another delight.

They had a wonderful rapport — at one point Powers attempted to chat about her upcoming work, and she deferred with a “we’re here to talk about your book.” I’ve looked forward to her new book ever since they mentioned it. (2/2)

I once worked with a guy with a similar tale. The story began with a Brownsville-adjacent dove hunt, continued with an impounded Suburban and a dirty jail cell, and ended with a Houston attorney flying to Mexico with a suitcase full of cash to cover the “fine.” Good times.
