On the last chapter of this UF novella and I'm not sure it is a romance anymore. I thought it was, and there is a huge element of Romance there (with a decent bit of sizzle and spice), but it feels like an action-adventure UF book too? And while I love the book, I don't know what to do with that.

It's really really difficult to see what's happening to you from inside your own life. You can't tell that you're being coarsened until you leave an environment that is key to making you more coarse. That's my experience at least.

I think one of the harder parts of trying to craft an viable "author identity" (ew) is that if I'M BEING HONEST, a lot of what I talk about in life is what I talk about in my work--the grief suffered and the endurance needed in a world full of death. Hard to be fucking cheery about that on TikTok.

It’s becoming increasingly clear that the narrative around 911 is being written by people who were either children or not born at the time of 9/11. We were not holding hands and singing Kumbaya in the streets. In fact, things got pretty ugly and anyone who didn’t toe the line was called a traitor.

Happy #StarTrekDay! Here's to Star Trek: Lower Decks, the show that turned me from a casual Trek viewer into a full on Trekkie. I love vintage things, so I wanted to make a tribute in the style of retro comics, it's the 60th anniversary after all! #StarTrekLowerDecks #lowerdecks #StarTrek

A drawing of the main characters of the show Star Trek: Lower decks in the style of 1960's paper print comics. It looks slightly aged due to the paper texture. From left to right: Lieutenant Junior Grades Beckett Mariner, Brad Boimler, Sam Rutherford, D'Vana Tendi and T'lyn. They have sort of formed a human train walking down the corridor of the USS Cerritos.
Mariner is closest to the camera, she is pulling Boimler by his arm, which is over her shoulder and smiling, looking back at her friends. Right behind her is Boimler, his right arm over Mariner's shoulder as he's being dragged forward by her. He's looking behind his shoulder and grinning widely as he shouts some thing at Rutherford, Tendi and T'Lyn. Next in line iis Rutherford, who's smiling widely and has a hand on Boimler's shoulder. His left arm is linked with Tendi's right, who is linking her other arm with T'Lyn's and dragging her along. Tendi looks cheery and shouts back at Boimler. At the end of the conga line is T'Lyn, who is being dragged along by T'Lyn. Her expression says she's not against it. T'Lyn is holding a PADD in her left hand, suggesting she was mid work when this impromptu human train formed. They are walking past a large window, and through the glass you can see the passing nebula.

Endured a crisis of faith this past week and I'm slowing a bit on my UF projects. I think I tried to force a process for every book when each book is its own process and the solution might just be taking pressure off a #wip. I'm in this weird place where I spent the last six months writing a manuscript, and now I'm not even sure I want to keep writing in its genre. And, y'know, I want to be happy with what I'm working on. I think the process of this series has shown me that I *actually* do need to be happy to produce.

This is a tough week. Dolly Parton and Tim Curry were cultural treasures that are hard to replicate, and I think when we lost talents like them we lost remainders of the world that made it possible for them to rise. What that says about the here now can be very sad sometimes. Fair journey to both.
