Other parts of our lives also match this difference in how we keep to do lists. E.g. We love researching but she loves to write about her interests & publish; I love to talk about them & give speeches. She keeps notebooks of her fave quotes/ lyrics; I 'remember' them & to drop them in conversation.

...both do wonder if our way is somehow making it harder for us to do things, over all (to borrow your phrase, we do wonder if secretly we are oppressed by our different approaches). But the bottom line I am incapable of manging to dos how she does and she's similarly incapable of doing it my way.

Neither is noticeably calmer or more stressed due to our method. Both feel overburdened at times by being the one keeping the more general family & kids 'lists'. Neither is less or more successful in getting other family members to work off our lists. Both feel the other's way is crazy making but..

My sister does everything by lists. I've never used a to do list & 'carry things in my head' (I've tried lists & have failed within a day every time). We've talked many times about how different our approaches are & what has become clearer every year is we both feel the same about our to dos...

Oh there is never such a thing as "done" when it comes to book collecting. There's at least 50 more I know of that I don't have (and more probably that I don't know of!) The cover art is amazing for these editions.

@davscomur.bsky.social I finally put all 287 Signet vintage classics I had in one bookcase. With plenty of room for more lol. #bookcollector #booklover #vintagebooks #homelibrary

I truly admire my kid. He's chosen a career that basically will have him auditioning time and time again, with a lot of rejections (it's a very competitive field AND the openings are very, VERY limited) but he is doing it and already putting himself out there. I know I couldn't handle it.

Today's show. Let me tell you, as stunning as you may think Lupita Nyong'o is on screen, she is ten times that in person. I am not familiar with how much theater work she's done but she was excellent in the role of A.

I must have (thankfully) missed that. Maybe that's why this time they're doing one with barely any dialog?!

Reading that I remember all over again why I felt so at home with you from the first time I read one of your long form entries. Sent link to kid as well.

Basically pay 150 bucks for one play to pay 250 bucks for another that's just banking on star names. And I wonder if people who are doing it know that SMS is nearly wordless, lol. You're basically watching these actors mime.

@bethinsac.bsky.social did you see?! $150 presale tickets to Downstate and then can purchase a $250 presale ticket to Small Mouth Sounds on a non weekend in a non premium seat. I guess they think people are dying to see Paul Rudd/Julia Roberts/Greta Lee/Martin Freeman on stage?! Insane!

Anytime anyone askes me about future plans in the next 5 to 10 years (I'm at that age where it now comes up in convo, especially since my kid is graduating college next May, and also b/c I keep talking about how I hope I get laid off), I show them this. Very, very few know or appreciate my answer.

Oh no!!!! Darn it! But if you're on your own and you're up for it, I'll come to the city any day you're there! Maybe even do a Wed matinee?! (Totally understand if you want to enjoy the alone time!)

I refuse to drive into NYC myself & deal with the traffic & parking. Even with the recent hike in ticket price cos of gas prices, two round trip tickets for J and me is less than gas and parking, plus we get to relax and read on the way to and from. There are no other good public transport options.

Jayran @jayran772.bsky.social · 09/09/2026
Also, thank god there's a Greyhound stop w/in 30 mins of my house that's a stop for the route to NYC. It's the only reason I'm able to go as often as I do, because it's a straight 1.5 hours and I get to read to and from. If they ever close that stop that'll be the end of NYC regular trips b/c...

Sometimes some off Broadways have Sunday night performances so it is possible to see 5 shows starting Fri night to Sun night (I've only managed that once). Mostly if we super stack it's a Fri. night/Sat. matinee & night/Sun. matinee combo, usually the weekend before Thanksgiving).

Ditto on what Beth said and of course I never book anything without checking A View From My Seat because so many times what looks like a "bad" seat (and is thus cheaper) really isn't. I mean, I check it less often now cos I've been in a lot of them, heh.

Also seeing two operas at the Met (Cosi Fan Tutti & Samson and Delilah); various Philadelphia Orchestra concerts, two stand up comedy shows, mutliple concerts, plus Philadelphia Film Festival and XPN Fest. Oh and Liberation, Top Dog/ Under Dog, Purpose, Girl From The North Country & Boop! in Philly

And they had plenty in at least 16 of the 20 years they were in control in one shape or another & didn't have a pair among the whole lot of them to do it. Truly both parties are awful; one is just blatantly aggressive being so, the other simperingly enabling being so. #theybothsuck

I don't get mad at Republicans in power every time our 6-3 right wing majority SCOTUS chip away at yet another principle of what the country is supposed to be about. I DO get furious at the Democrats who squandered all the opportunities they had when they were in power to prevent this. #SCOTUS

Over on an Instagram account of there's discourse happening on childhood movies that traumatized you as a kid. Once again I must offer the 1974 Japaness animation of Jack & The Beanstalk. Is it any wonder I thought weddings were horrifying? youtu.be/yT14LUuSEm8?... #animation #childhoodtrauma

He was a senior when I was a freshman at RU, and he was exactly the same, only even more insufferable(hard to imagine but yes) because he was definitely big fish in small pond there.

And they are most definitely not MAGA leaning. They technically are non political but their programs clearly show who and what they support (i.e. not the evil side). (Philly really is an amazing city for all the arts...)

I'll have to ask J who has an AMC membership if he's seen similar reel though he would have told me. But also this is another reason I love Philly: the Philadelphia Film Center owns the three coolest theatres in Philly and while the program skews to retrospectives & arthouse, they show popular too.

I always thought it was b/c for so many years we were seperated in different countries--hell, continents--for several months at a time. Yes, that made it worse. But it was more than that & I get it now, from their POV as parents. (It's not a secret I truly liked hanging out with my parents, too.)

It's just that he's just such great company and so fun to have around, not just as my son but as an adult (young but still an adult). I really get now why no amount of time I spent with my parents seemed ever enough for them, and why they especially preferred time with me/my sister over anythinf.

I know I'm spoiled by J going to college only 40 mins away, & that during the semester I at most go 2 weeks w/out seeing him, & he's spent every winter break & spring break w/ me, too. So him going away for 6 weeks again this summer is what other parents deal with all year...but I'm still sad.

Saw Fear of 13 today w/ Tessa Thompson (whose fan I've been since she appeared in the Cold Case episode "Best Friends" ~20 yrs ago) & Adrian Brody. No stage door today b/c they were prepping to go straight to the Tonys. A pity; they're both, especially Tessa, apparently very nice about doing it.

Same. But then in my case it's probably because I already knew of Frank Farian in relation to Boney M, who I did grow up listening to (you can be Iranian and born in the 60s and 70s and NOT have heard them growing up).

I did get West End through presale as well--I did hear they priced up quite a bit closernto and during the run for whatever was left b/c of good reviews and the pull the realized RZ plus balcony scene had. West End is starting to get a little Broadway over the past few year for shows with "stars"...

Optimism REALLY continues: booked [Jamie Lloyd's] Evita tickets for March '27. Very last row* w/ presale code was still a LOT. Also realized it's at the Winter Garden, same as where his MAAN is. *J & I saw it 5th row orchestra center at West End last summer for less. Broadway prices, man.

I also am having trouble narrowing down from 9 shows to the (at most) five I can manage to see when I am back in London in July. Oh woe is me, my diamond shoes are too tight.

My optimism* apparently knows no bounds. Have booked to see [Jamie Lloyd's] Much Ado About Nothing (with Tom Hiddleston) and Galileo (with Raúl Esparza) in late November of this year. *or is it my fatalism resulting in me spending savings left and right on showa and trips and concerts?! #broadway

And I do mean literally; I was bouncing up & down on my toes at my standing desk w/out realizing 'til one of my coworkers asked why my camera was shaking, on a video conference call. (I was also talking too fast for the meeting captioning to capture half my words but that's pretty usual for me hah).

I also made the slightly unwise choice of treating myself to a coffee drink which I thought sounded cool. I found out after the fact it had something like 3 espresso shots in it, which coupled with my adrenaline rush build up & release waiting for & getting my results literally had me bouncing.

I (finally) got some good health news today (versus the last several months where each appointment/test was , let's just say, not as good as I wanted/hoped for) and so for 24 hours I'm just gonna fully enjoy this burst of happy feeling without adulterating it with the now hourly onslaught of crap.

Between his roles on Dept Q, Shetland, In The Dark, & now Irvine Welsh's Crime, Jamie Sives may be my favorite supporting Britbox crime series character actor. I laughed out loud for a good five minutes for his scenes in Episode 3 of Crime. Horribly rude, seriously funny character in that show.
