I dunno. "Classic conservatism" pretty much does want to invest power in one man, and always did and always will. The type of conservatism that claimed the label in late 20th century America was at best an anomaly, and more likely, as we've seen, a disguise.

This is the obvious result of any good-faith reading of the Constitution, which explicitly gives Congress control over int'l commerce. But to Trump, stripping him of the power to impose tariffs is tantamount to him losing the 2020 election. It's all that makes him relevant. So ... game time.

The Trump regime's attack on Harvard is merely its latest attempt to shut down all potential sources of dissent and intimidate them into silent obedience. If I know my country -- and I hope I do -- it isn't going to work. But I'm not as certain of that as I'd like to be, as I used to be.

The claim of genocide perpetrated against white South Africans has roughly the same degree of factual support as the claim that Trump won the 2020 election. Which is, none. But once you claim to believe such bizarre things, you give yourself an excuse to do many bad things you really want to do.

Voter fraud is all but non-existent, but MAGA keeps the myth alive because their real goal is to put up so many bureaucratic barriers that voters get discouraged. Same with Medicaid. The idea isn't to stop fraud, it's to justify so many bureaucratic barriers that people just give up in frustration.
