A'chago could feel the anticipation, the sweet restlessness of the fight in his muscles, the sharpness of his surroundings. The near-weightlessness of his chakrams, despite their heavy material. They begged to be thrown. His fingers itched with the need to loose them. The great burning in his chest, the beating more, more, more. He loved to fight.

G'raha curled up as small and tight as he could in his pile of furs. The other children were playing outside and daring each other to jump in the freezing river. He knew this because he had been dared yesterday, and now he was utterly infirm due to the resulting sickness.

'Dared'. Pushed was a more apt word. G'raha tugged the furs up to his chin and pouted. He had been minding his own business, on his way back to the sanctuary of the children's rhasht after finishing his chores, when G'rohlo had spied him. The older boy was an unimaginative oaf, so naturally, G'raha had ended up submerged in the deep, ice-cold river.

he was a very affectionate and happy child, a bit shy, but then stuff happened & he became quite aggressive & withdrawn. This pattern of being naturally friendly & joyful then being ground into a little paste of anger & sorrow continues on for the rest of his life :) #chagoart #chagolore

He truly hadn't expected Emet-Selch to respond so violently. It was like a switch was flipped—gone was the exhausted, melodramatic Ascian waxing poetic about ye olde days. He was replaced by an angry man in A'chago's room.

And, well.

A’chago didn't have a great track record with angry men.

At the very end of Emet-Selch’s speech, he kicked a stool and proclaimed he was doing it all for A’chago, who was an affront to God and existence. Or something similar. It was at that point that A'chago had called Emet-Selch a few more colorful expletives, including insinuating he had ulterior motives for confronting A’chago in his bedroom. That was when he got slapped, he explained.

“We were both pretty quiet after that,” A’chago recalled.

How dare you!? Emet-Selch had shouted. I would never—how dare you!? Do not ever accuse me of such a deplorable act again!"

from Oud: "Pressure on the crown of his head signaled G’raha resting his chin. Like this, A’chago could feel the vibration of his voice as he spoke. “I missed you,” he rumbled.

“Silence, fool,” A’chago responded, and lightly pressed his head up. “You miss going on adventures.”

A giggle, something reserved entirely for A’chago because of how soft it made G’raha sound, squeaked in his ears. “Well, I can’t deny that, but…”

G’raha released his hold on A’chago’s torso to play with his ears, flipping the cartilage in and out and back again. “I’ve also missed these,” he said. Then his fingers trailed past A’chago’s bandana, until they curved under A’chago’s eyes. “And these.” He continued his journey to the flat bridge of A’chago’s nose, settled squarely between his high cheekbones. “This.” And then down to his full lips, with the pronounced cupid’s bow. “This, especially. It’s far too quiet when you’re gone.”

A’chago twisted his face until G’raha laughed at his expression. “Did you just call me noisy?”"

Wuk Lamat gave a look that said she wasn’t sure if she should laugh at that joke or not, but Alisaie cackled out loud, and that was fortifying enough for her to give a polite chuckle. “Oh, well, I don’t have that much talent for magic either,” she said. “So A’chago and I are in the same boat.”

“Thank you, Wuk Lamat.” A’chago stuck his tongue out at both of the twins. “Also I don’t recall either of you being white mages. Doesn’t that make me cooler, ‘cuz I can do it even though I have a disability?”

“For Hydaelyn’s sake, you’re not disabled,” Alisaie interrupted. “Seven hells. You’re the Warrior of Light, you can’t be saying things like that.”

“Actually, Thancred said I could say it.”

“Thancred’s not—well, I suppose he is.”

“I’m telling Thancred you think that his quality of life is exactly the same after losing his ability to use aether at all.”"

It stood out G’raha’s eye immediately as he sifted through the mail that the postmoogle handed him that afternoon. The recipient was clearly intended to be himself, as depicted by the elaborately-written name in the very center, where G’raha was written with more loops and curls than he could count. The address was the Baldesion Annex, as well, which eliminated any remaining doubt. But who could be writing to him? And of what—official business regarding the Students?

G’raha glanced up at the name of the sender, and immediately frowned in disgust.

“What’s the matter, kupo?” the postmoogle asked, with a tilt of their round, fuzzy head. The lopsided mail cap slid half an ilm down the expanse of white fur. “Is it a court summons? Jury duty? Are you being sent to prison, kupo?”

G’raha stuffed the letter in his pocket, not minding the way it wrinkled the expensive paper, and scowled. “No, I am not.”

Hildibrand Manderville, Inspector Extraordinaire, was not worth going to prison over. Not that that particularly influenced G’raha’s desire to kick the man’s teeth in."
