Fountain pen of the day: (vintage) From the American company Wahl Eversharp, made in1935, this is the Doric Airliner, a very beautiful vacuum filler made of red and black celluloid, and a smooth 14k gold nib.
The Wahl Eversharp Doric Airliner, a medium sized fountain pen, faceted with gold plated cap band, clip and the brand logo on top. The pen has a vacuum filler system that carries a good amount of ink. It’s lightweight and has red and black celluloid (red wine shell is the name of this version). The same pen, uncapped with a 14k gold medium nib. It’s quite smooth and wet. It posts comfortably.

Fountain pen of the day: A matte black Pilot Capless, better known as the Vanishing Point. It’s still the best retractable fountain pen, considering that the second best are the Chinese “homages”. It’s a good looking piece with a black 18k gold nib. Not my favorite model, but it has a great price.
The Pilot Capless, a retractable pen in matte black, with a black 18k gold nib. It’s a well made model, relatively comfortable and very smooth. Also shown is the black box with a spare cartridge in a metallic cover.

Fountain pen of the day: (vintage) In my search for vintage pens, sometimes I get lucky. From 1925, this is a Parker “D.Q.” (Duofold Quality) for women. It’s in a great shape, with the black permanite intact, with stripes and the body engraving . It uses a lucky curve filling system.
The Parker DQ, a black permanite (hard black rubber) women pen, with a ring on the cap instead of a clip. The pen is short, with a gold plated cap band. It has a blind cap that hides the button for the lucky curve filling system. The pen is in a perfect condition, with the stripes and the engraving on the body, that tells the brand, model, place of origin and patent. This model was made between 1924 and 1925.The same pen, uncapped with a 14k gold nib, with the legend “Lucky curve Parker 2” the nib is hard and smooth. It posts comfortably and is needed to use this pocket model.

Fountain pen of the day, at last, I completed my collection of Pelikan Souveran, with the M600, in the Stresseman version, a gorgeous black, silver and gray stripes pen, with a very wet and smooth nib. Pelikan has some of the best luxury level pens at a good price, compared to Montblanc.
The Pelikan Souveran M605, in the Stresseman version with a silver clip and cap bands. The body has gray and black stripes. The photo shows also the box in gray with the brand name and logo in silver, a pen pouch in white vinyl and a bottle of Iroshisuku Take Sumí ink.The same pen, uncapped with a 14k gold rhodium coated medium bib, that writes as a broad, very smooth. The pen is lightweight and posts comfortably. With this pen, I now have the complete Souveran line: A red marble M200, a blue striped M405, a M605 Stresseman, a green striped M800 and a black M1000, from left to right. The same pens from the third photo, uncapped with a gold plated medium steel nib, a two tone 14k gold nib, medium, a rhodium coated 14 k gold nib, a larger two tone 18k gold medium nib and a big two toned 18k gold nib, medium.

Fountain pen of the day: From a very good Italian brand, this is the Leonardo Momento Magico. Its a comfortable and smooth all black pen, with a piston filler mechanism. I have heard some divergent opinions about this brand. Some consider it the best Italian pens, and some complain about the QC…
The Leonardo Momento Magico, a glossy black pen with conical ends and black metal trims. It has a nice texture and appearance. In the photo is included the blue box with the brand name and the model. The pen has a little plastic medallion with the brand logo. The same pen, uncapped, with a fine black steel nib. It also shows the ink window. The pen is comfortable to use posted and the nib is very smooth.

Fountain pen of the day: Although recently I finished sharing my collection, one of the good things is that there’s space for growth. My last addition is a Kanwrite Emperor, an economical flex nib from India. It’s a good looking piece with a really good nib, even if it’s a little on the heavy side.
The Kanwrite Emperors, a brass pen in black with chrome trims. The clip has the brand name and the model name printed on the cap. Also shown, a blue cardboard box with the brand name and logo in golden letters. The same pen, uncapped with a metallic section that is a little slippery and a good steel flex nib. Overall, it’s a nice pen for the price, but with the slippery section and the weight, it can be uncomfortable for some people.

Fountain pen of the day: I recently received this one, a Diplomat Aero Black Forest, an aluminum pen with a wood like cover. It’s a little heavy, with a superb nib in a cool design.
The Diplomat Aero, perhaps the best design of this German brand, in a cigar shape, inspired by the zeppelin. It’s al aluminum, with a wood design. It has a dark metal clip, and the cap has engraved in white the brand and country. Also included in the photo is the box in metal with the brand name and logo in black letters. The same pen, uncapped with a long metallic section and a number six steel medium nib. Diplomat do very smooth nibs that are a pleasure to use. And although the pen is heavier than it looks, is well balanced and comfortable. It posts well, but can be too heavy for some people.

Fountain pen of the day: My last acquisition. From Aurora, this is the Optima, a short piston filler pen, with a great 14k gold nib. Gorgeous piece. And with this one, I’ve shown all my collection, from cheap, but well made Chinese pens, to vintage finding to more classic pieces. It was fun.
The Aurora Optima in Auroloid Viola, an special celluloid in rich purple and black resin, with rose gold trims, including the cap band with the brand name and country of origin and the classic clip. It’s a very lightweight model. The photo includes the classy box in black with the brand logo. The same pen, uncapped with an ink window (filled with Montblanc Amethyst Purple) a black resin section and a very smooth 14k rose gold fine nib. My first experience with Aurora wasn’t great. I found the designs dated and the nibs very scratchy, but, with time, I found better pieces, like this one, that is resting in the fancy box, with a plaque that says that the nib is 17k gold. (Not true).

Fountain pen of the day: From Delta, this is their classic Dolce Vita Original mid size pen, in a nice orange and black combination. It’s a thick model, but very comfortable to use. This one was acquired from Pen Boutique, from USA. You can go to their website and look their blog about this pen.
The Delta DV original, in orange cracked acrylic and black resin, with silver trims. It’s a thick pen, similar to the Sailor Progear, comfortable to use. The photo includes a bottle of black ink and the box, in black and orange, with the brand logo and name. The same pen, uncapped with a very smooth flex fine steel nib. The pen posts but it can be use unposted. I find this pen well built and good looking.

Fountain pen of the day: From Japan, this is the humble Pentel Tradio, a plastic pen with a long section and a nib with little feedback. Cheap and comfortable to use. Also admits international converters.
The Pentel Tradio, a plastic brown pen in a cigar shape, with a metal band, and a cap with aplastic clip and a little window for the nib.The same pen, uncapped with a long plastic section and a medium steel nib. The pen is lightweight, the nib is smooth and posts well. It would be a good beginner pen.

Fountain pen of the day: The revival of a classic, this is the Sheaffer Legacy, in the Chevron variant. I was wary about this model, considering the trend of reviving classics in a subpar way. This one is great. Comfortable and well made. A great combo of classic and new.
The Sheaffer Legacy Chevron, a black and gunmetal model with a good size and weight. The chevron pattern gives a good feeling to use. It’s both modern and elegant. The photo shows also the big black box it comes with and a nice pouch. The same pen, uncapped with a very good looking and smooth black steel inlaid nib, in fine. The bib is very smooth, and comparable with vintage 14k gold inlaid nibs that I have with classic Sheaffer pens. This pen can be posted (I read that other variants can’t).

Today I was strolling through a department store, and entered a Montblanc boutique. They had a burgundy 149, and the shopkeeper was kind enough to let me handle it. I have an old 149, with a 14c gold nib, ebonite feed and brass piston. The one I saw felt very cheap, no different than a Jinhao x159..

Fountain pen of the day: The flagship of my collection, this is the Pilot Custom 845 Urushi, in Vermilion. It’s a very nice looking and feeling pen, in ebonite and red Urushi lacquer. It’s a big pen, larger than a Pelikan M1000, even if it looks little compared to its very expensive big brother.
The Pilot Custom 845 Urushi pen, in black ebonite, covered in bright and smooth red Urushi lacquer. The pen has gold trims, and the cap band has the model name. My only peeve is that it came in a very disappointing box, in cardboard and some satin inside. For a $1000 USD pen, the box was more in the level of a steel nib pen.The same pen, uncapped with a smooth ebonite section and a two tone 18k gold fine nib, equivalent in size to a number six nib. I found the point a little hard, but very smooth. The pen posts well, altough is better to use it unposted, for, although it has a slim felt band inside the cap, and urushi is supposed to be a very durable material, the felt will definitely degrade with a little use.

Fountain pen of the day: A luxurious model from Pilot, this is the Justus 95, a 14k gold nib pen with a tension adjuster at the top of the gripping section that allows to harden or soften the nib. It really doesn’t make a real difference, but looks cool. Nonetheless it’s one of the best nibs I own.
The Pilot Justus 95, a big pen with a black ribbed design pattern, and gold trims. The pen has a nice feeling in hand. The pen shows a decal with the nib size (medium), and the photo shows the black box with the brand and model in black letters. The same pen, uncapped with a long 14k medium nib with a tension adjuster that allows to soften or harden the point. The nib is buttery smooth and the pen is comfortable to use.

Fountain pen of the day: A Kaweko Collection in their honey version. It’s a good looking model in bright golden yellow. It has the classic quality of the brand, with the smooth nib; and the same shortcomings, like the fact that clip and converter are sold separately…
The Kaweko Collection Honey, a Sport model in resin, in yellow. It’s a short pocket pen. It includes a black brass clip in black. Also shown is the little yellow box and golden letters with the legend “Kaweko Collection.”The same pen, uncapped with a golden medium steel nib, quite smooth. Being a pocket pen, it should be posted to use it comfortably.

Fountain pen of the day: From Japanese brand Wancher, this is the Kaleido Shisui pen. It’s an octagonal design in bright acrylic. It’s a good piece, with no clip. Very smooth and well made. For those interested in luxurious materials and techniques from Japan, Wancher is a more affordable option.
The Wancher Kaleido, an octagonal clipless pen, in smooth lines made of polished acrylic in green and blue tones. It has the brand logo in chrome, at the top of the cap. Also depicted, is the nice wood gift box.The same pen, uncapped with a medium section and a smooth fine green steel nib. The pen is smooth and although it could be uncomfortable to use, depending on your grip, the pen is actually a good and lightweight model. Not one of the big three Japanese pen brands, this one is a very good option.

Fountain pen of the day: From Japanese brand Taccia (the first time I heard of them I thought it was an Italian brand), this is a Spotlight, in their Highlighter version. Its surprisingly well made pen, and the feeling is very nice. The nib has little feedback, but overall it’s a good choice.
The Taccia Spotlight Highlighter pen, a cigar shaped model in clear electric green acrylic. The pen feels very solid and smooth in hand, with a chrome clip and cap band. Inside is a green Sailor converter, filled with Diamine Meadow ink.The same pen, uncapped with a two toned steel fine nib, with little feedback. This one is a very nice pen, even if the packaging was one of the ugliest one I’ve ever seen.

Fountain pen of the day: As a happy coincidence, this pen is from the Spanish manufacturer Inoxcrom, the Prime Vintage, in Beige (more like cream, or bone, if you ask me). It’s an economical model, with good quality and nib. It’s intended as a retro piece, but, apart from the color, it isn’t.
The Inoxcrom Prime Vintage, a pen in cream color with chrome clip and band. The pen has the brand name in red letters. The pen is slim and lightweight. The photo shows also the box in cream and orange, with a logo in teal and brown. The same pen, uncapped with a medium steel nib, smooth. The pen posts well and is comfortable to use.

Fountain pen of the day: From the Swiss pen maker Catan d’Ache, this is the Madison, in the Clou de Paris version, a slim rhodium plated pen with a chiseled body. It’s a nice piece with a 18k gold nib. It’s now discontinued.
The Madison Clou de Paris fountain pen, a slim rhodium plated pen with a chiseled body and clip. The nib is a little 18k god nib, medium, very smooth. The pen posts well, and it’s recommended to use it posted because of the short body. The Madison Clou de Paris, capped. It’s a short sized pen, slim. Perhaps more suited for a little hand. It’s good looking and was expensive, as is common with this brand. It’s a very good quality product. The photo shows also the box in black with the brand name in silver.

Fountain pen of the day: A fancy one, from Scriptura Bolognesa, (Scribo) this is the Piuma, in Agata version. A nice acrylic pen with a big 18k nib. It is a good model, but quite expensive, considering that you can get a Pelikan M1000 or a Pilot Custom 845 Urushi for the price of this base model.
The Scribo Piuma, in Agata version. It’s a cigar shaped pen, with a flat band at the front and back, in black and blue marbled acrylic. The front has the brand name engraved and the cap has a simple golden clip. In another case of irregular quality control of Italian pens, the band doesn’t aligns well between the cap and the body. I would expect this from a $3 USD generic Chinese pen, not for a thousand dollar one. The photo includes the box and a fancy pen pouch, in fabric and leather. The same pen, uncapped with a long acrylic section and a long 18k gold broad nib. The pen is smooth but isn’t as good as certain German or Japanese nibs in the price point. The pen posts, but not very well. I wanted to add this brand to my collection, considering the reviews I saw online, but this one was subpar for the price, even if I got it with a 30% discount.

Fountain pen of the day: I found a second hand Parker Premier Mk III, from 2010, a luxurious model made in silver and lacquer with a very good 18k gold nib. It’s a heavy piece, but good looking, showing what Parker was still capable to do until recently.
The Parker Sentinel Mk III, a luxury model with black lacquer and a silver cap in a tartan design. The pen is a little heavy but not uncomfortable. It has the classic arrow clip. The same pen, uncapped with a chrome section and a very smooth medium 18k gold nib, rhodium plated. It posts well, but is more comfortable to use unposted.

Fountain pen of the day: A nice Platinum Plaisir pen. It’s a lightweight aluminum pen in bright deep blue color with the smooth steel nib that characterizes the entry models of these brands. I think that this is as good as the Pilot Metropolitan series.
A Platinum Plaisir in the box. It’s a cigar shaped pen in aluminum, with a chrome cap band and clip. Fountain pen of the day: A cool and solid design, this is the Pininfarina PF Two, an aluminum pen with a satin texture and a very smooth steel nib. The design is as beautiful as any Italian luxury brand, and the quality is better than your average Italian brand…
The Pininfarina PF Two, a good sized aluminum pen in satin blue finish. The pen has an stylized chrome clip with the brand name. The pen has an interesting shape, like a cylinder with diagonal cut ends. Fountain pen of the day: The TWSBI Eco, in their Bronze Black Marble version. It’s a good pen, with a smooth nib. It’s a pity that you can’t find them in Mexico (there’s only one shop that sells them and it’s cheaper to order them abroad and pay the delivery and tariffs). Good overall piece.

Fountain pen of the day: From India, this is the Kanwrite Steelex, a slim pen in steel with golden or black trims and a flex nib, with an ebonite feed. It’s a good model. It’s funny when other brands brag about ebonite as an exotic material, when Indian brands do so many affordable pens with it.

Fountain pen of the day: My last “British designed, Chinese made” pens, a Wordsworth & Black, the Majesti model. This is a very low quality copy of a Montblanc with a bad nib and feeder. I know there are good pen makers and solid brands in the UK. This type of brands do a disservice to them.
The Wordsworth & Black Majesti, a cheaply made knockoff Montblanc. It’s heavy and the finish isn’t very good either. It’s a cigar shaped pen with chrome trims and a black squared pattern. I bought it secondhand and even at half the price, I paid too much for it.The same pen, uncapped with a metallic section and a medium steel nib, scratchy and with a bad feed. I’ve seen this exact model sold as a Montblanc falsification on a street stand. So this brand just uses some Chinese low quality manufacturer, and pretends to be a British designer. This harms both British serious brands and good Chinese manufacturers.

Fountain pen of the day: The Sailor pro gear slim… nope. This is a Jinhao 82, an obvious “homage” of the famous Japanese pen. It’s a very cheap version, but I found that when Chinese brands copy, they don’t just make the same shape. This one has the same feedback, instead of a more smooth nib😑
The Jinhao 82, a copy of the Sailor pro gear slim, with the same shape and feeling of the original, in baby blue and white plastic with golden clip and cap band. Very lightweight and comes with a converter. The same pen, uncapped with a white plastic section and a little fine two toned steel nib. Fountain pen of the day: A curious model from Monteverde USA, this is the Dakota. At least this one hasn’t revealed any structural flaws, but again the design is subpar. This looks like a pocket pen, imitating Pilot’s E95s, right? Nope. The pen is normal sized, with a ridiculous large cap.
The Monteverde Dakota pen, a brass pen with an olive green finish, also white and black stripes, like the Allies’ planes wing identifications. It also has a chrome clip and the print of a propeller on top of the cap. The pen has a very large cap, like a pocket pen, but it is really a normal sized piece. The same pen, uncapped with a medium steel nib, that is smooth. The pen also comes with a converter. The pen, although copies the shape of a Pilot E95s, being of regular size, makes the pen ridiculously large when it is posted.

Fountain pen of the day: The Asvine C80, a big pen with a number 8 steel nib, very smooth and good looking. This one is in the “Blue Galaxy” finish. I like this brand with their piston filler and converter pens. A shame that their vacuum fillers don’t tend to last.
The Asvine C80, a big cigar shaped pen, made of acrylic in a blue swirl. It’s clipless, and without a brand or logo. The same pen, uncapped with a big number 8 nib, a medium in steel. It’s very smooth. The pen posts but is better to use it unposted. (And watch out for the cap, that will roll easily out of your sight)

Fountain pen of the day: The Platinum Procyon, a metallic pen with a nice feeling, that shares the nib of the more economical models, like the Preppy and the Plaisir. It’s a good model, that I heard is being discontinued, like the Curidas. That’s a shame, for Platinum nibs are quite smooth.
The platinum Procyon, an aluminum pen in a satin red finish, with chrome trims. The model is stamped in white letters in the cap. The pen has a nice texture and weight so it’s. Feels more solid than the Plaisir. The same pen, uncapped with a transparent plastic section and a medium steel nib, that is used with other models of the brand. It’s nothing fancy, but is very smooth.

Fountain pen of the day: A nice model from Leonardo Officina Italiana, this is the Supernova, in the Galleria version. Although the original photos showed a little different palette of colors, it’s still a good pen, with one of the best steel nibs out there.
The Leonardo Supernova, a pen in yellow acrylic with black, orange and brown accents. Has a broad chrome cap band with a woven pattern and clip. The photo also includes the black box with the brand name. The same pen, uncapped with a very smooth fine steel nib. This Italian brand has some of the best nibs I’ve tried. The pen has a good size and weight so it’s comfortable to use posted.

Fountain pen of the day: (vintage) From 1937, this is a Parker Vacumatic Debutante, a celluloid pen in the Emerald Pearl variant. It’s a very nice writer, in great shape. Normally it has a jewel in both ends of the pen, but probably this pen had its blind cap replaced with a jeweless cap.
The Parker Vacumatic Emerald Pearl, an art deco model in black and cree celluloid, with gold plated cap rings and their classic arrow clip. Medium sized and lightweight. The same pen, uncapped with a two toned 14k gold medium nib, that is still smooth, great for a 90 year old piece. The pen posts comfortably, and holds a good amount of ink.

Fountain pen of the day: A classic model now, that has become the favorite of many, the TWSBI Eco, an economical model in clear acrylic. Although it received many complaints regarding its quality, many people like to collect them. Decent writer, that holds a good quantity of ink.
The TWSBI Eco, in transparent acrylic and white cap and blind cap. It had chrome trims. It’s a piston filler and very lightweight. The same pen, uncapped with a steel fine nib. The nib is a little scratchy.

Fountain pen of the day: This is the Laban 325, in their Flame edition. It’s a good looking pen in acrylic, with a smooth nib. This Taiwanese brand likes to experiment with different materials and do a nice work with their brass line.
The Laban 325 Flame, a red and ivory acrylic pen, with golden clip and cap rings. Although it’s a big pen, is lightweight and comfortable to use.The same pen, uncapped with a white section and a smooth gold plated fine nib. It’s very comfortable to use posted or unposted.

Fountain pen of the day: (vintage) This is from the extinct German brand Elysee, a more economical model, the Lacque Antique, a brass pen in blue lacquer with gold plated trims. It’s a smooth writer, even if I’m not that a fan of slim pens. Made in 1986.
The Elysee Lacque Antique, a slim cylindrical pen with gold plated clip and ends, and decorated with a Greek pattern. The same pen, uncapped with a long resin section and a smooth gold plated medium nib. The pen looks and writes fine, posts well.

Fountain pen of the day: A nice model from TWSBI, this is the Classic, a different model from their more traditional transparent pens. It’s still a piston filler with a little window and a very good nib.
The TWSBI Classic, an hexagonal pen in white resin with chrome trims. It has a large cilindrada blind cap for the piston valve. The same pen, uncapped with a little ink window and a very smooth medium steel nib. The pen can post, but there’s the risk of making it rotate the piston.

Urushi is not just a material. Without urushi trees, there is no true urushi lacquer, no maki-e, and no kintsugi. Our crowdfunding has slowed down, but the young trees still need care, fencing, fertilizer, and years of protection.
