Credit card fraud on a Friday night. Oh yay. 😖 Bank caught 2 stupid small charges on FB tonight. Insult to injury, they missed the fraudulent charge of *$200 for AI* - an annual Claude subscription at Anthropic - from *3 days ago*. Their system needs work if it didn't find that suspicious!!

Visiting the Columbine Memorial just further reinforces how terribly and tremendously our country has failed its children in the decades since. This memorial was erected for 12 students and a teacher. You'd need close to 40 memorials for all the deaths since then.

Sitting in Corvus Coffee in Denver with a proper cortado w/side sparkling water. The hub has kyoto drip cold brew. We're sharing an excellent pour over & each have tasty house-made pastries (watching the bakers now). This is pinnacle 3rd wave coffee & service, and it's become much less common.

Consuming almost a quarter of the state's electricity but employing only 0.2% of workers. Those economics are terrible! In my former life, if there was a unit in the plant consuming that much energy for that little payoff we'd have recommended to shut it down if at all possible.

Twice in the last 3 days we have found the remains of eviscerated creatures in the yard (rats or mice, hard to tell). Not sure if it's the local cats or hawks (both around) but realllllly hoping it's not a trend.

My guess is left is after shutdown? Left has traffic worse further north on SB routes, 205 SB bridge busier (people using alternate route), more yellow around southern downtown, 84 EB worse (not sure why that would be the case but it's demonstrably worse) If the right is after shutdown then 🤷🏻‍♀️

Translation for my TX friends: imagine the entire 10 EB heading into downtown Houston closed for 5 weeks just inside the 610 interchange. Anyone coming the west could only take the 610 or (further back) the 8 and then downtown in via the 45 / 59, or circle around to enter from the east side.

There is a wonderful musical about this called Come From Away. I saw it at Oregon Shakespeare Festival this year (their staging), and it was one of the few experiences inspired hope in these awful times. If there's a local production near you, see it. Filmed performance is on Apple TV & Prime.

So 3 different issues (medical & travel related) were dealt with much easier than expected this morning and it feels like I won the lottery. It's seems like almost too much of a relief to not be struggling for a change? Like I've become conditioned to everything being harder than it should be.

Every state gets their money. I lived in TX with no income tax. My property taxes were near double what I pay now in OR (on a house worth 2/3 what I have now) and my sales tax was - the same as my income tax now. All states get their money. Sales tax is the most regressive way to get it.

I don't care about most celebrity deaths. I care about Dolly's because she did so much for others with her fame and resources, and she did so graciously with humor and kindness. She didn't hide it but neither did she brag. She just did it. If more celebrities were like this I'd mourn them too.

For perspective, OR wildfires have already burned more acres than the entirety of Yellowstone National Park. 😳 more than the Grand Canyon, Yosemite, Rocky Mountain, and Redwood national parks - combined. 😳 This doesn't include the massive fires in WA state. And we still have 2 months to go.

Trying to steel myself to get all 50+ 1st year native plants watered today despite the smoke (99 AQI) and 80s heat. The next 3 days it's 95+, but tomorrow is root canal morning so I can't do it then...and that leaves today. The things we do for our plants. 💚
