Maintained my goal of reading a short story a day this week with 20th Century Ghosts by Joe Hill. Hill is a great writer, but this collection was tonally a little too broad & varied for me. My Rating: ☎️☎️☎️, that's 3 of 5 phone calls from the dead 23/365 Short stories read 📚

Guess who is now a member of the Brantford YMCA? 🫢 With hubby by my side, I got in the pool, in the "slow af" lane & managed to not drown for 1.1 km, that's 44 laps 🏊 🎉 I haven't swam much in my life, so let's see how this goes! A thousand thanks to hubby for always encouraging me ❤️

Highly recommend The Owl Men of Shanidar by Coy Hall 🦉 Fans of sci-fi classics like Dune will love this book! Engaging story of colonists trying to find a new place for humanity, but their shackles to an ancient society & religious zealotry may have them repeating the mistakes of the past.

Pride nails done 💅😁 Had to mix my own colours because of course I don't have pink polish and my regular blue is much darker - think I matched the Transgender Flag pretty well though 🏳️‍⚧️ Think this is the 1st time I've had pink polish on my nails! Even as a youngster I avoided pink like the plague 😂

Watched a couple of great things on Netflix this weekend! Unbroken is a documentary about a family of 7 Jewish siblings who survived WWII in Germany through the kindness of others. Very touching and informative. 1/2

Another weekend of cooking a gigantic meal, this time for a friend I haven't seen in ages. Made a Middle Eastern feast including za'atar spiced pita chips, hummus, tzatziki sauce, tabbouleh, falafel, and baklava - so yummy 😋

Been a nice Easter weekend with hubby, including bringing a delicious dinner to my in-laws today. I made a Ukrainian feast of vegetarian cabbage rolls, roasted potatoes, paska (traditional Easter bread), & a pull-apart cupcake cake (not traditional but Ukrainian approved, lol).

You know spring is on its way when the chipmunks come out and I actually go outside too 😂 Enjoyed a nice 5km walk this morning and saw 2 big turkey vultures in a tree, Canada Geese by the river, a lovely crow, & lots of other birds.

Yesterday I was on point in the kitchen making a belated birthday celebration meal for hubby 🥳🎂 I made tourtiere (a French Canadian meat pie with Beyond Meat), potatoes Dauphinoise, sautéed spinach, and Granny Cake for dessert - om nom nom 😋

Finished re-reading All Quiet on the Western Front yesterday & damn, it rips my heart out every time 💔 And because I enjoy torturing myself, today I started reading The Wars by Timothy Findley 😭

In my recent escapade of buying books in places that shouldn't tempt me with books, I was at the bank & couldn't resist buying these 3 beauties: What Dreams May Come by Matheson, As I Lay Dying by Faulkner, & Girl, Interrupted by Kaysen. Books for me, money for a local charity, that's a Win-Win 📚❤

Meet Jimmy the Psycho Squirrel, based on one of my stories. My sis read it & had to knit a version of Jimmy for me. He was raised by a kind man who happened to be a drug lord, & when some bad people slaughtered Papa, well lil Jimmy needed to revenge & discovered a love for the taste of eyes 👀

Home from the last of the holiday visits in hubby's hometown where we spent the weekend. Took the long way home, taking in the sights of Niagara Falls, which probably looks less covered in snow than expected. Family time is always good but never feels long enough❤

Spent a fantastic afternoon with family at The Watering Can in Vineland for a tea lunch, & browsing Christmas decor & plants 🥰 The platter of food included sandwiches, scones, wild rice salad, macaroons, & tarts - all was delicious 😋 Also got a Christmas cactus & cute pot!

Celebrating my 46th birthday today 🥳 Got some awesome gifts, spent time with loved ones, & saw cool things ❤ In cleaning the hoard I also found some amusing old pics.

Having an awesome weekend! Spent time with hubby & our dear friend, walked along the lake, walked in the woods, saw an owl (1st time in my life!!!), & now chilling in a hotel room with snacks & watching the Grey Cup 🏈
