This is one of the most dangerous lessons the charismatic Christianity has taught news media. It’s only a headline if it’s a punchline. Never taken seriously as the highly influential worldview, with very real world effects, that it is. Sure he’s a buffoon. So is trump, yet here we are…

In ep 13, Jennie talks with Renee Lapp Norris about the history of America’s first popular culture form – blackface minstrelsy. Foster is sometimes credited with originating the genre, but Renee covers the history of minstrelsy before Foster began his career in the late 1840s. youtu.be/KkPp_OEihe4

Guessing they were a quant scholar? Could be bringing my own bias here (media historian so very much in the minority of mass comm research areas) but SO MANY quantitative scholars get enamored of their data & cannot critically analyze context. Numbers can be great but only as a means never as an end

I’ve been thinking about writing about this. When we hear “prosperity gospel“ we mostly think about like Jimmy Stewart, Jim & Tammy Faye Bakker, Kenneth Copeland, etc. The new version is far darker, but it’s still the same underlying ideology on the money side of it

The most generous reading of this is that Dems in places where they benefit from being seen as “centrist” or “moderate” extrapolate that to the whole party. Their careers do live and die on the particular whims of local constituents so I can see why they would overestimate and project…

Hot 100 pulls from all genres. It’s (at least in theory) the 100 most played songs of any genre whereas Top 40 is just pop. Choosin’ Texas is a country crossover so it does get pop airplay but its main numbers are on country radio so if you aren’t tuning into that you are less likely to hear it.
