25 years ago it was my 2nd day at Bar School. I spent most of it in the library, working there with phone off until it closed. I didn't check any news on the Internet. I sat there til 9pm oblivious. My parents were in New York on holiday, looking forward to visiting the Twin Towers that morning.

25 years ago today it was my 1st day at Bar School. Among the crowd of fellow enthusiastic wannabe barristers, there was a short 23-year-old wearing a chalk stripe suit. I don't think he was wearing red trainers, making bad puns, or eating a Michelin star packed lunch. I wonder what happened to him?

For someone “not listening”, Farage made a heck of a lot of comments that made contextual sense in the course of the conversation to which he apparently wasn’t listening.

Trying to work out how to make these statements consistent. Where is the gap that allows something not to be wrong but to not look good, to require action and to involve saying things that shouldn't have been said?

I wonder whether Farage will be damaged more from the exposé by the potential criminality or by the fact his Guinness is topped with champagne and accompanied by half a dozen oysters.

At what point will Trump realise that America is named after an Italian explorer and sign an executive order to change the name to Trumpland to spite Meloni for slighting him?

I sometimes wonder whether accent should be added as a protected characteristic under the Equality Act. Treating someone less favourably due to their foreign accent is protected under race (see eg Carozzi), but treating another Brit less favourably because they are Scouse or Brummie isn't. Thoughts?

This submission from the Tate brothers' lawyer (in seeking bail) puts in one sentence so much that's destructive about the modern day impact of social media.
Sentence explaining that the Tates make hyperbolic posts to get views and likes and hence income.

I hope these Times quotes are not 100% accurate about the outcome of a discrimination case by one of the Jewish performers cancelled from last year’s Edinburgh Fringe. The outcome is right - it was clear discrimination- but the references to the Equalities Act by counsel & judge make me shiver!

I’m presuming the real reason Nigel Farage didn’t attend the vote count is that he’s not yet discovered how to get to Clacton.

I've no idea about the complainant's motivation, but even a bad-faith complaint can merit investigation, and I think we can be confident Daniel Greenberg, the Parliamentary Standards Commissioner, wasn't influenced by any antisemitic intent. www.jewishnews.co.uk/tice-claims-...

I was once in the cinema with the late, great Bill Oddie. He was at the Hampstead Everyman to watch the Alan Partridge film. Quite surreal to look over at him for his reactions in the scenes where Partridge did his Bill Oddie schtick. I recall a whimsical raise of the Oddie eyebrow. RIP.

As someone whose father in law has been in a care home for 6 years, this thread hits the nail right on the head (save that his care home costs about double the amount Dan puts in the thread). The social care lottery is pure madness and someone needs to be brave enough to take tough decisions.

I don't understand this show. There's no coherence to it at all. It has no narrative arc, no purpose, and no relevance to the event (apart from Justin Bieber squeezing in the words "World Cup"). Couldn't they have just brought out Diana Ross to miss a penalty and keep everyone happy?!
