NEW: We're urging the Mississippi Supreme Court to consider Willie Manning's claim that Black jurors were systemically excluded from his 1994 death penalty trial. Non-diverse juries are more likely to make mistakes or miss key evidence. Juries must reflect the communities they represent.

The U.S. Supreme Court ruled against Louisiana’s congressional map in a case that changed the legal landscape for challenges under Section 2 of the Voting Rights Act. So what does that mean for MS? Learn more: www.aclu-ms.org/campaigns-initiatives/fight-fair-maps-redistricting-mississippi/

Our motion to join Foster v. Mississippi and defend Mississippi's only majority-Black judicial election subdistrict, located in DeSoto County, has been granted. The preliminary injunction hearing is scheduled for tomorrow in Aberdeen. The fight for fair representation continues! Stay tuned!

On its own, SCOTUS issued an extraordinary order that may dilute Black voting power in MS. This is wrong, this is heartbreaking, but at this point, it is expected. At its base, the Court’s order reasons that Black Mississippians may enjoy too much political power.

Thought the article would at least address Mississippi. Nope. Just ignored it. Also, Black people like having representation in state and local government. Not just congress.

The Trump GOP is trying hard to replicate Mississippi style gov. Tax dollars go to keep people in line and benefit supporters. Unpopularity doesn’t matter because you convince your voters to prioritize the fight against the “others” instead of policy concerns.

BREAKING: We're suing Louisiana officials for suspending the state's primary election after voting has already begun. On the heels of a Supreme Court decision that eviscerated protections for voters of color, elected officials jumped at the chance to disenfranchise people - we won't allow it.

I am unspeakably angry about this turnout gap figure, and it gives insight into the whole ballgame for gutting the VRA. Alito points out that Black turnout exceeded White turnout twice in 5 elections. The argument is garbage 1/x

The Governor of Mississippi will bring the MSLeg in for a special session to take place 3 weeks after the Callais decision is announced. The call is for the msleg to redraw the state’s SupCt districts to comply with a federal court’s order to bring them into compliance with the VRA.

SB 2114 is just two signatures away from the governor’s desk. The bill would require local agencies to cooperate with federal immigration enforcement and could expose Mississippi taxpayers to costly lawsuits. Call the Capitol switchboard at (601) 359-3770 and urge lawmakers to oppose SB 2114.

A federal court ruled Mississippi’s Supreme Court district maps dilute the voting strength of Black voters. Lawmakers got time to redraw the maps, but the process is happening behind closed doors. Mississippians deserve fair maps and transparency. Read our full statement: bit.ly/4s3XGrW

The best word to describe MS's legislative process is INSANE. I have failed at explaining to our national office colleagues, how it's possible for handful of lawmakers to meet privately to redraw the state's sup ct districts, but refuse to allow anyone, including other legislators, to see the map.
