This can't be human writing, can it???

Jared Wade @jaredwade.bsky.social · 05/10/2026

I can't wait to go see it again. Been thinking about it all weekend and keep realizing new things to love. Might be a masterpiece.

Claudia Pina must be stopped, what in the world.

And these are merely initial thoughts! There is a lot in this movie and it demands a rewatch. Still processing everything. Certain possibility that my already high view of it goes up up up in time.

#DiggerMovie/ #Digger Round 3 tonight: Looked spectacular in VistaVision 35mm at The Grove AMC. What Tom Cruise does in this film is extraordinary. Iñárritu channels Coen Brothers, Gilliam & Kubrick’s mayhem, distilling it into a potent concoction.

Didn't see any reviews or trailers beforehand. But prioritized seeing it early because I got the sense the Discourse was going to be tedious and didn't want to be influenced at all by nonsense.

There are many movies I like a lot and respect a ton that I don't necessarily "enjoy". Including 21 Grams, which is a favorite. And I think this has more potential than most Iñarritu to be a ton of fun on rewatch.

Digger is real cinema. Good ass picture. Alejo and Tommy did the thing. It's not amazing, and my skepticism, of both the artistic ambition and the story, persisted very very far into the film. To the point I thought I might have been watching a straight burger past the hour mark. But it's a good one

I rewatch this less frequently than I should, in part because when I first saw it pretty young it struck me as a long movie. Rechecked and it's only 2:20, which is now a shorter superhero flick or like half a modern Scorsese.

Elmore Leonard is the greater talent of the two. It’s gotten complicated as our society has degraded and QT, despite being a pastiche artist, has made queasily cathartic Nazis are evil/slavery is evil/cult murders are bad movies, which don’t stand out so much as points of view in better times.

Cynically, I understand why media companies are interested in this slop. It's free and they hate paying labor. But you, as a human listener??? What is wrong with you. Go discover the good music. It's what being alive is about.

There are already more songs and albums than any person could listen to in lifetime. New great ones are being created every day. If you can't find ones you Iike — and instead want a computer to create beeps and boops for your ears — you're beyond help and never liked music in the first place.

Oh, dear. As a Keeley stan, I've been worried about how they could make much of this worthwhile for character/story reasons (beyond the obvious money reasons).

Brain on Drugs was the better ad, surely ran much more. BIgger impact. But less memorable because it's benign and became a backdrop of society like "only you can prevent forest fires" or "if you see something, say something." whereas "learned it by watching you" is an unintentional comedy all timer.

I'm a weirdo and maintain a ranking for each year... and I initially slotted it ahead of both Solaris and The Discreet Charm of the Bourgeoisie. So I'm not going to argue!! Godfather may not even be safe.
