Jared Moody @jaredmoody.com · 26/08/2026As a bike novice I have found the opposite to be true as well: I’m less stressed cycling than driving and feel more connected to the people and places around me. 031

Jared Moody @jaredmoody.com · 09/04/2026Just AWS, deploying with Kamal, provisioned with TF. It’s been…interesting. Leaning on the LLMs made TF possible and only then because I have enough AWS experience. Just overprovisioning which is still cheaper than Heroku. We miss Judoscale though 🥲 120
Jared Moody @jaredmoody.com · 06/04/2026Customers: we need newer gen instances and better size options! Heroku: we re-wrote our CLI again! 🙄 We completed our move off and just from using newer instances our p50 response time cut in half. 101
Jared Moody @jaredmoody.com · 18/03/2026Just scaled the last dyno of our rails app to 0. Might write up a thread but we're now running on AWS, provisioned with #OpenTofu, deploying with #kamal. Gradually moved traffic a via CloudFlare load balancer over the last week and so far so good. AMA. 000
Jared Moody @jaredmoody.com · 18/03/2026You either die a hero, or you live long enough to get purchased by salesforce, be neglected for years, try to squeeze your customers for enterprise contracts, give them false hope of a new platform only to pull the rug and declare maintenance mode. Jared Moody @jaredmoody.com · 21/10/2025Similar to the DB in that it's on the border of Rails - I guess it's another section of the data layer. Been thinking about what if we cold log all the traces to db or object storage (cheap!) and index them for searching with clickhouse or whatever. solid_metrics? 🤔 110
Jared Moody @jaredmoody.com · 21/10/2025Yes, and there are similar gaps for smaller companies e.g. observability was a big topic at @xoruby.com in Portland - you care about the customer experience but don't have thousands a month to throw at an APM. Add sampling and risk missing the traces you care about I guess? 132

Jared Moody @jaredmoody.com · 30/08/2025I deal with this problem quite a bit - one thing I think would be handy is a way to display stale cache results while new cache contents generate in the backend 🤔 000

Jared Moody @jaredmoody.com · 23/04/2025We tried Render and found at least their ruby platform to be unstable. We were parallel deploying with Heroku and the third time Render broke our app (while Heroku did not), we gave up. Maybe dockerized would be different 🤷 200
