My haul from MD sheep and wool festival. My list of wants was a diz, a wpi tool, and a niddy noddy Left with a diz, WPI tool, 2 spindles, wood handled seam ripper, angora bun batt, test roving for the spindles, a shawl and a shawl pin, 2 Crane ornaments, madder, and some end minders 🧶 #fiber

Went to MD sheep and wool today and picked up my first Turkish spindle. Went with a Snyder as I'd heard only good things. @senesced.bsky.social I feel like you'd approve

Managed to make these rolags out of my combing discard. Never really tried a woolen prep before so I'm excited to see how this spins up!

YevHandmade (Any) @jarbasaur.bsky.social · 11/03/2025

Got myself a comb and hackle set and made my first three birds nests. Can't wait to see how these spin up compared to the fairly textured batt they came from. Next goal is learn to comb with less waste material if possible #fiberprep #comb #hackle #handspinning

Three birds nest shaped bundles of white wool that has been freshly combed. The rightmost bundle appears yellowish due to the density of the fibers. The bundles lay on a desk mat which is covered in a cute illustration of chubby frogs working in a garden shed.

225 yards of hand spun 3 color 3-ply alpaca measured up and going to soak. Around 11-13 wpi pretty consistently. My absolute most usable spin so far. Think I'll try and knit this into a Musselburgh hat 🧶 #handspun #spinning #fiber

Finished and skeined up. I can't believe I Made this yarn This is gonna be a problem because I can spin a yard faster than I can knit one

236 yards measured on a cat tree because I can't be bothered to get a niddy noddy My longest spin yet and it feels like such an accomplishment. Unfortunately this partially felted braid I started with is too scratchy for me to wear so open to ideas for what to make with it 🧶 #handspun #spinning

YevHandmade (Any) @jarbasaur.bsky.social · 26/02/2025

Question for spinners how would you prepare this wool for spinning? It's got lots of curls, clumps and some VM in it, so I'm not able to spin as consistently as I'd like. It was fine for learning on but after spinning some other fibers I'm starting to think this is a prep issue and not a me issue

A batt of white wool with a portion of loose fiber unraveled off of it on a brown background.

Plied up two nano bobbins of alpaca on my new #eew 6.1. this thing is so much more powerful, the uptake is beautiful, and my yarn has yet to get caught on the guides. The foot switch is also fun. Also the bobbins feel enormous after using the nano 🧶 #handspun #fiber #spinning

Back to alpaca, warming up for Spin Together this weekend and hyping myself up for my eew 6.1 to arrive. I think I figured out how and when to move my yarn guides bc this is the smoothest bobbin I've ever spun

YevHandmade (Any) @jarbasaur.bsky.social · 16/02/2025

Welp my thickness is all over the place. I left in some neps and slubs intentionally to see how they worked up but didn't not anticipate the wild variation in thickness 😅 Loving how the colors combined tho. Hoping it looks better after finishing 🧶 #handspun #fiber #eew

Dyed wool experiment. Spinning session 1: I love how much deeper the color becomes after spinning it. I may need some fiber prep tools if I want to dye my wool because getting it wet and then drying it seems to have flattened a lot of the fluff. I ended up "hand comb"-ing it? If that's a thing

1100

YevHandmade (Any) @jarbasaur.bsky.social · 14/02/2025

Haven't spun it up yet but gonna be spinning up some dying experiments this weekend. Thinking I will alternate the blue and yellow on one single and ply it with this red/orange

So I am working on this dotty cardigan but 14 rows into the dot stitch pattern and I don't think my yarn choice really shows the dots. Thinking about switching to plain stockinette but curious if anyone thinks this dot pattern looks worth it on this yarn? 🧶 I think it just makes it look messy

Spinning Consistency/thinness practice with some Romney/cheviot mix I got for free. Managed to fit an 12 yards more on my nano bobbin this time so I think I'm getting finer on average but also this fiber is much easier to spin finer bc of the way it sticks to itself 🧶

I saw someone post about doing it twice on the same project and thought "This could never happen to me" I literally cast on the Lisbeth hood the same day and noticed I was twisted about 6 rows in. Luckily that part will be invisible in the final piece anyway so I just twisted it back over

Very very mixed results trying to chain ply on a eew mini 2 (nano 1.1?) Think I need to upgrade the yarn guides, figure out the friction issue preventing uptake, and get some more bobbins but also not sure chain plying is totally feasible on this tiny thing until I can spin consistently finer 🧶
