A galactic house of mirrors 🌌🪞 Webb has captured this spectacular view of the galaxy cluster MACS J0454.1-0300. Its gravity is warping & multiplying the images of background galaxies, which appear like they have stepped into a house of mirrors! Read more 👉 www.esa.int/ESA_Multimed... 🔭 🧪
A massive galaxy cluster, made of many golden elliptical galaxies with the largest, brightest one in the centre. Heavily distorted orange galaxies appear all around the cluster, the largest concentrated in a large arc around the cluster's centre; these are images of very distant galaxies, created by gravitational lensing. A few galaxies are large and bluish-white in colour; bright, nearby stars are the same colour. Credit: ESA/Webb, NASA & CSA, L. Furtak, S. Fujimoto

Trump himself votes by mail, but he wants to make it harder for you to do the same. For Republicans, the fewer people who vote this November, the better their chances. While this SCOTUS ruling doesn’t strike down mail-in voting, it does allow Trump to continue his assault on our elections.

For curiosity driven science, this is a major cut. Recall that breakthroughs occur more often in curiosity driven science than in application driven science. On a decade long cycle, this should not continue. After the next election, the NSF should be renewed and refunded.

Roman Space Telescope - Full Stack Credit: NASA/Jolearra Tshiteya images.nasa.gov/details/KSC-... #Roman 🔭🧪
NASA's Nancy Grace Roman Space Telescope pictured on Friday, Aug. 7, 2026, after engineers and technicians working inside the Payload Hazardous Servicing Facility at NASA’s Kennedy Space Center in Florida had carefully mated the observatory to its payload adapter and a strut payload attach fitting, a specialized piece of hardware designed for large, heavy loads. This allows the team to secure the payload to the second stage on SpaceX’s Falcon Heavy rocket. Named for NASA’s first chief astronomer and “mother of the Hubble Space Telescope,” Roman will offer a field of view over 100 times larger than Hubble’s to study up to a billion galaxies, directly image exoplanets and planet‑forming disks, and address fundamental questions about dark energy, exoplanets, and infrared astrophysics.
