Our latest for your summer reading list: how do plants control growth at the organ surface? So proud of @zoenv.bsky.social's magnum opus and grateful to all the other authors, including Annamaria Kiss, @nathan-german.bsky.social, and @moritznowack.bsky.social! www.cell.com/current-biol...

Plant cells at the organ surface use mechanical cues to activate a specific growth-control program
Nemec-Venza et al. show how mechanical signals, such as tissue tension, can activate gene expression in epidermal cells at the surface of Arabidopsis roots. The expression of the edge-specific growth ...

@binebrumm.bsky.social, together with @dromius.bsky.social team colleagues, unveiled how key proteins act as 'sculptors' in plant cells, taking on different roles to shape development Read more www.slcu.cam.ac.uk/news/plant-c... And full paper doi.org/10.1126/scia...
Trichomes on an Arabidopsis thaliana leaf (here shown using electron microscopy) are formed by a single cell adopting this spiked shape (top images). Arabidopsis plants without a SCAR/WAVE gene cannot form properly shaped trichomes, because their inner cytoskeleton control is impaired (bottom images). Images by Sabine Brumm.

Stomatal transpiration and rapid programmed cell death ☠️ triggered by lowered ambient humidity causes anther tissue collapse for effective pollen release ! Happy to be part of this great PNAS story with @kampova.bsky.social, Matyáš Fendrych, and @svosolsobe.bsky.social! www.pnas.org/doi/10.1073/...

The joy of mendelian genetics: white alpine Arabidopsis arenosa made by crossing heterozygotes for my candidate pigmentation gene from a fully pink population.

Uggh. I really wish that publishers would not be doing this. This is in Oncogene. Can we get one download button for one file containing the article + all supplemental figures and tables, please? The Cell suite of journals actually does this and it is so lovely.
Screenshot from the website of Oncogene, a scientific journal. It shows "Supplementary Information" and then 9 hyperlinks to Supplementary Figures 1-8 and a Supplementary table.
