We weren't born for For the 24hr news cycle, or To process endless tragedy And division on the eternal Scroll of doom. But you were made To encounter golden fells of gorse, The feel of the north wind, The thorn pierce of bramble, And the wing song Of returning winter geese. #DailyNature #poetry

A special find! I guess you’re like me. Everyone else is striding past, looking into the distance, or chatting away, and I’m way behind, crouched down, looking at the ground, getting excited about some tiny plant, ‘shoving my camera into the grass’ as my kid one described it 😂

Belated #wildflowerhour purple #toadflax Linaria purpurea by Entwistle reservoir. At first I thought I’d typed belated but it came out as elated, which is, of course, the proper response to meeting wildflowers 😊
Purple Toadflax plant in the evening sun, growing behind a bench. It is partly in flower, with two-lipped, five-lobed pinky-purple flowers, growing in clusters. The lower part of the flower spike has green seed pods. It has grey-green slender leaves below the flowers. Behind it are more flowers and beyond that a track, hedge and traffic cone, all out of focus. There are a few other plants among the toadflax, with brown stems and umbels of flower heads gone to seed.In the foreground is a stone wall, behind which are some tall trees on the left, with the evening sun shining through their branches. Beyond the trees is mown grass and a small slope leading up to a reservoir. The water is mostly blue, at one end reflecting the sun. At the far side of the lake is a conifer woodland, growing close to the water’s edge. The sky is blue, with some white clouds.

Yes, here in Lancashire. I’ve only properly witnessed it once though, years ago, when it seemed like a whole colony, which had been invading the house, was suddenly taking off. Can’t remember the date. The other day I had one flying ant in the house. There are ant nests in my yard.

Been thinking a lot about #mitochondria Mine have been struggling since getting #longcovid When I feel up to it, I do some #freemotionmachineembroidery & meditate on how mitochondria support each other. Two can fuse to become one, or ‘kiss’ to align & organise their inner membranes (called cristae)
A green plastic embroidery hoop of size 220 mm by 195 mm framing free-motion stitched mitochondria in red thread, showing the outer and inner membranes in cross-section, inspired by electron micrograph images. In the centre is a recently fused mitochondrion: it has a peanut shell shape, narrower in the middle where the two mitochondria first joined. Two of the mitochondria are kissing: where their outer membranes are touching, the folds of their inner membranes, called cristae, are neatly aligned with each other.

Stick n’ stitch that works in the printer sounds like an absolute game changer. I’ve only recently started using soluble fabric but this sounds even better. How do you remove it? Peel off? Or is it soluble?

Happy #WorldEmbroideryDay ☺️ Some pieces from my embroidery journey 2021-2025 (the last one is still unfinished)
A compilation of 12 photos of my embroidery pieces. Some are stitched words or line drawings in backstitch. Some are thread paintings.

Ex There is one rectangular redwork piece in a frame, which is a stitched poem entitled ‘redwork’ and one piece that is a simple house design stitched on a mini canvas. The other ten are all in circular embroidery hoops.

There are positive messages in the pieces with words. For example, the first piece in the top left, an embroidery piece in a hoop, with freehand words stitched in red. In the centre is a heart, around which is the phrase ‘create & chat’. All the words begin with the letter C. There are some flowers stitched with daisy chain stitch, and heart motifs. The stitched words are: contentment, conversation, calm, cherish, cozy, cheer, connect, craft, companions, comfortable.

The bottom left piece is an embroidery ‘thread painting’ in an orange hoop. The scene is a pond in the woods. A tiny figure in the centre stands on a hillock just beyond the water. There are patches of ground stitched in orange and russet, where there is a carpet of fallen larch tree needles.

The last piece, at the bottom right, is an unfinished embroidery in a detailed thread painting style, of a woodland scene, framed in a green embroidery hoop. The large central tree is growing on rock. In the foreground, the purples in the rock strata have been accentuated.

Bluesky is an "echo chamber" but Twitter is some kind of what, salon? An egalitarian agora where ideas are respectfully exchanged? Twitter is a smoking Cybertruck with a greasy dude reeking of Axe Body Spray offering Circus Peanuts out of the back seat. I have no interest in getting into that ride.

My personal embroidery has taken a bit of a backseat as I’m working on a community textile project with our #LongCovidSupport group at #BrainHealthBreakthroughCIC Some beautiful contributions from our group members #CommunityArts #LongCovidBanner #crochet #embroidery #CrossStitch #WIP #TextileArt
Two fabric pieces in the shape of ginkgo leaves, in two shades of green. The dark green leaf has the words resilience and strength embroidered on it. The bright green leaf has the words hope and endurance embroidered in it.A selection of textile pieces laid out on a bright green background as part of a banner work in progress, including a cross stitch piece that reads ‘Brain Health Breakthrough’ circled by crocheted hands that are linked together. There are crochet sunflowers and a heart, and two pink Suffolk puffs in the shape of hearts.Various leaf shapes in three shades of green cotton fabric, laid out on a coffee table.
