Little steps are how Galen’s learning life’s good now he’s not trapped in the breeding industry. He loves Albert Claude who’s happily helping him to move on. The breeding set up Galen was rescued from in an awful neglected state has been reported by at least 3 rescues over the past 2 years.

We have Leelou from Paris back for a visit and she’s a characterful noisy little pudding who is at least helping Galen and the schnauzers bond as they dodge her Parisienne feistiness. I am hoping (not planning as this is the year the ink isn’t dry on them before they burn!) for a quiet September.

I’m finding it hard to believe it’s just a week ago that I arrived home with Galen. So heaven knows what he thinks! He’s doing brilliantly. At dawn this morning he had a lovely free running zoomie moment with Albert which lifted my heart and couldn’t have started our day better.

He’s healed physically but emotionally has a little way to go, and may never be a normal dog exactly. I will not forget what he has survived, nor the dogs he’ll have left behind in the hands of a breeder in Wales who should not still be operating but is. More on that another day.

Galen Soleil joined us this week, arriving in time for the solar eclipse (the second part of his name), and Galen is in honour of Angel (anagram). Galen until recently was stuck in a breeding place. He’s had 29 teeth removed due to severe dental disease, treatment for ear mites and neutering.

July 2019 and it was Twinkle’s last summer. It feels a lifetime ago. In a way it was, Angel’s lifetime with us. She joined us in the autumn that year. When Angel died earlier this month I vowed to speak louder about the harm done to dogs in the breeding industry. I will keep that promise to her.

Very sadly Angel died on 1st July after a terrifyingly aggressive tumour decided to claim her. Thankfully she remained seemingly unaffected despite it ravaging her beautiful face in the space of a few days. We’re remembering her as she lived her life with us, loudly, bossily and utterly uniquely.

It’s almost 2 years since Nanou came to live with us. Life was bad for her in the breeding industry but today she’s the happiest little dog. Not all dogs recover as well. Some carry lifelong trauma. The puppy industry is driven by an insatiable demand by the public and is wrong on many levels.

Stopped to pose for a photo on my morning walk. The humans seem to like it when I do good boy sitting, plus I get a treato. 🧡 #SchnauzerGang #DogsofBluesky

Hugo, the black and silver Miniature Schnauzer is sat on a forest path looking straight at the camera. This is his ‘good boy’ sit and usually means he is expecting a treat.

Behind Hugo is an avenue of trees.

Hugo had a fabulous walk today, zooming about, racing through the Forest, jumping over logs, doing lots of sniffs. He’ll probably spend most of the afternoon gently snoozing. It’s a hard life for the little fella.

ADOPTION APPLICATIONS OPEN …for Pippa and Pumpkin. They can be homed together or separately but importantly and non-debatable is that they will need to join a confident dog (or more) in their new lives, as they will rely heavily on their new canine friend(s) to be their guide to life.
