One of my motivations in politics is to build an inclusive, cohesive society like the one we have in Lewisham. This includes RE and to teach children about all the faiths and respecting people for their beliefs. Delighted to meet NASACRE today, as their patron. 🤝

Today, I met Lindsay and Craig Foreman's family. 600+ days detained in Iran, held in Evin Prison. I've written to the PM urging real action for their release and regular meetings with envoy Alistair Burt. No family should wait this long. Please support: freelindsayandcraig.com

There was so much to see at #CorbFest over the weekend, and I was inspired to see stalls from local residents showing their talents. I left with far too many lovely things, including a hand-drawn card by local resident Jane Kemp. What a pleasure to have it held in the heart of the Corbett Estate!

Too many children from visually diverse ethnic backgrounds find themselves over-policed and under-protected. The independent report on police leadership confirms police leaders are unable to meet the needs of the public. I welcome the Government’s long-term commitment to addressing these issues.

My statement on the Prime Minister’s resignation:
Keir has achieved much for this country and has much to be proud of. As Prime Minister, he has improved renters’ rights, employment rights, and rebuilt the UK’s reputation on the international stage. Under Keir’s leadership as Leader of the Labour Party, he revitalised the party after the disastrous 2019 election, helped banish the evils of antisemitism that had infected our ranks, and led the party to a landslide victory in the 2024 election, not seen since 1997. I am sad to see him step down.

The £1 billion investment in children's social care, and the £560 million for children's homes, foster care and kinship care, will leave a lasting legacy for some of the UK's most vulnerable children, one that could endure well into the next century. This is a legacy which the Prime Minister helped secure when I was Children and Families Minister.

I have always respected Keir and his leadership, and valued his friendly, considered approach to so many colleagues, and to me. Mistakes have been made, and it is to Keir’s credit that he is standing down in the manner that he is.

The timetable, which has been set out, will allow for a smooth transition of power. It is important that Labour ensures it delivers for the communities we represent, as well as the ones we don’t. Much has been achieved, but much more remains to be done. Only then can we ensure that the political extremes engulfing our country be beaten back.
