And here’s the trailer for BEING HEUMANN. In cinemas Nov 6, streaming on AppleTV Nov 13. I saw it last night at the London Film Festival & it’s a triumph.

The thing about Gillis's monologue isn't just that it's misogynistic; it's that it's misogynistic in the most unoriginal, dated, cringe-ily 1982 would-be Andrew Dice Clay way. Like, wow slut shaming women in workout clothes, where'd you dig that fossil up

People are discussing how Halloween candy is so terrible these days. A reminder that alot of the candy we eat is made with women’s prison labor. Russell Stover’s factory in Kansas busses in 150 women a day via a convict leasing program to staff their candy factory.

X vs Bluesky discourse. 🙄 Sooner stick a needle in my eye. IDEK the guy who posted the pure and obvious bait. So, for me, it was as easy to block him as it was to leave X, which was super easy. In 2023. ✌️+💖 + follow your bliss :) www.youtube.com/watch?v=2n-Q...

With the war in Iran driving up energy costs it’s gonna be a hard winter for a lot of us. No one has to face it alone. If you’re ever worried about staying warm this winter go to jacksonformaine.com/heat We’ve got a list of resources there to point you in the right direction.

Also my understanding is that these positions pay very little. So these ppl are having to stay in hotels, eat takeout, for little pay, only partial reimbursement, etc. It's not an unreasonable ask, imho. I can see how it didn't fly "politically" but it's not corruption at all. Meanwhile, Collins...

Collings said over time the proposal would save the state money, by applying the funds now paid to legislators for their housing allowance toward the cost of building and running the facility. And he said revenues could be produced by renting out rooms in the facility to the public at market rates during the substantial portions of the year when the Legislature isn’t meeting in Augusta. He suggested the facility could be an existing building, such as a state office building that might become vacant and/or an historic building. He said a three-star hotel with around 100 rooms would cost at least $27 million to build.

Rep. Austin Theriault, R-Fort Kent, the only other lawmaker to speak in favor of the bill, said Maine is one of the most rural states in the nation and for years legislators have had to either stay in hotels four nights a week and eat out, or look to purchase a house to have decent housing with access to a way to cook.

Here's the article they allude to in the ad. Not only not "luxury" they suggest a "3 star" hotel, which to me implies basic business class, Fairfield, La Quinta, etc. Discussions ensued. Decisions were made. Not a scandal. Not Jackson's proposal. Shameful ads. www.pressherald.com?p=7055741&uu...

Sponsored by a Portland state representative, the bill aims to save money while providing legislators with a place to stay while doing the public's business in Augusta.

Only thing I found on this was an old article where a Dem proposed bldg housing for lawmakers in Augusta. Jackson was among several supporters, not the iniator. The word "luxury" was never used. Seemed to address a legit need. Hotel housing allowances were raised instead. Nothingburger. Desperate.
