If current tech has intelligence of any sort, then it has rights. If it has rights, then how we currently use it is tantamount to slavery and we should probably halt all current/future use/development until we develop an ethical framework for INVITING it to work with us. when I am generous I think about how easy it is to surround oneself with sycophants (even at the low levels of influence I was almost in) and how that creates barriers to learning & knowledge if you don't realize it's happening/think you've put things in place to counteract it (but didn't succeed)

Back in the day when I used to consult for tech companies, one of the questions I would ask their founders was "is this company meant to make a profit, or is it meant to be sold?" Because if the answer was the latter - and it often was! - then the issue of recouping funding was a very different one.
