True. I guess my concern is the underlying assumption that local communities will always have the political leadership they need in order to understand/commit to/deliver what it is they need & will benefit from. In, say, Clacton - just as an entirely random example, obvs.

Interesting stuff. Love the thinking about reshaping job centres. Q: how to make sure communities not so well served by their local politicians don’t get left behind? If residents of GM are supported by Live Well centres but residents of Chesterfield, say, still have to go to a Job Centre?

All of this core to the work we at ACEVO & colleagues at NCVO are doing to establish a new framework for the relationship between government & civil society. So important we come from a partnership perspective strong in the knowledge of what we can offer - the doors are open for those conversations.

Two points to add: those from economically insecure backgrounds (or whose parents are) are far less likely to choose careers in an economically insecure sector And who decided charity should be delivered on a shoestring anyway? How do we change the narrative for *everyone* (funders, donors, and

Can I join you? Cheese (or to be more precise, lots and lots of cheeses) on one counter, and another counter stacked high with top quality charcuterie. A few carefully curated accessories to add to the ambience (& the profit margin.) I’ve still got the business plan in a note book somewhere.

Do I need to introduce you to @dannno.bsky.social, who has sent me a fascinating email (which I’m still digesting Dan!) inc a link to a really helpful blog about the different lenses on AI that civil society leaders can look at the whole topic through? Though I suspect you’re ahead of me on this!

Thank you! And how is it best used after it’s been frozen? Does it go mushy when it defrosts?

🤣 Roast squash. Sautéed squash. Squash soup. Squash grated into cakes. Not yet tried freezing squash …

What is common knowledge in your field, but shocks outsiders? Most people working for charities are on salaries, because despite popular belief ‘doing good for the sense of satisfaction’ doesn’t pay the bills. And those salaries have to be paid from charitable funds.

I actually cannot remember how I navigated around the country to unknown locations without satnav. Vague memories of sitting pouring over an AA road map (which had to be replaced every year) and scribbled directions on a scrap of paper taped to the dashboard. And arguments. Lots of arguments.

Gosh, that’s quite something to be given credit for and I really don’t think I deserve it, but I know exactly what you mean - even this place will never quite be the same as that place was in its hey day, because we’ve all learned to be a tad more cynical. Happy Twitterday though, for all that 🥰🎉

need better solutions to loneliness and isolation in general though. Maybe supermarkets could use some of the space cleared by decommissioning conveyor belt checkouts to provide community led social space instead!

The more the balance tips towards automated self service, the stronger the business case becomes for closing down the trad checkouts all together. Which of course is what happened when we moved from old fashioned counter service to self service shopping in the first place. Completely agree that we

For my own convenience I’m with you, Helen. But I’m concerned for those for whom a chat at the checkout might be the only human interaction they have in a day or a week. Think we need to preserve those opportunities for human contact more than we realise.

And why as a woman with power in a room - as chair, or key stakeholder, or boss - we have to ensure that women are given the opportunity to speak early. Preferably not just to ask for a glass of water, either.
