This shocking but unsurprising data should be enough to spur governments and public bodies to immediate and sustained action. For healthy life expectancy fall so much, and for us to be so low in comparison to similar countries is a disgrace. The solutions aren't a mystery, but they need commitment:

Delighted to hear @rthonwesstreeting.bsky.social highlight AI in Dudley's stroke care today. AI is helping all England's stroke units diagnose and treat stroke quicker. But access to key stroke treatments like thrombectomy is still a postcode lottery. Good progress but we need to go further

Behind the headlines designed to rack up anger, are countless stories of people supporting each other. I did some work supporting the homes for Ukraine scheme in the voluntary sector, and it's easy to forget just how much support there is out there. People care, but that doesn't get the clicks.
