Is it possible that as a nation we have now run out of people who can bake? #gbbo

The charity has just subtly dropped a bunch of official “in support of Ovarian Cancer Action” logos on to the Facebook page.

These are indeed the business, and so immediately comfortable that I have already worn them outside.

Yeah, I mean I definitely should have brought one with me, just to say: I am unsteady on my feet. Two cyclists rode up behind me on a shared path and I had to tell them I was unable to get out of their way and they’d need to ride round me.

I’m putting my ankle to quite the test today. In M&S two members of staff were walking abreast straight towards me in the shop, and someone needed to take avoiding action. “Sorry, I can’t step sideways at the moment!” I said in a panic.

Just told a man handing out “Good News!” leaflets that religion can fuck right off, and now I feel really bad. He did not expect that from a nice lady in a fleece. In my defence, I’m exhausted, in pain, needed coffee, and religion can fuck right off.

But it seems I just didn’t register any production noises.

I did two rounds of this thing a few years ago, can remember every single question I was asked, and exactly how difficult it is to walk “normally,” but not about the sounds. For the opening bit we all had to stare at a particular camera with a warm but not smiley look.

Oh that sucks. Healing vibes.

Oh! Hang on. There was a timing issue in one round for me, where Clive had slightly stumbled, and we realised I’d lost five seconds, which would have given me an extra question. So we had to record that and they edited it in. Which would suggest the music is dubbed later.

Oh my god, I genuinely can’t remember! I was so focused on Clive… You mean the bit when the two minutes is coming to an end? Hmmm. I think possibly we just heard the bleep.

I wouldn’t have known what chicken tikka was at the time! The only curry was Vesta.

Oh nice. Yes, the podiatrist diagnosed my hallux limitus. Wide toe bed, stiff soles and a turn-up at the front are what I need to look for.

ALSO: and I’m angry about this from the Forty Hits of 1976 at the BBC. Complete Melanie erasure in the captions when the Wurzels were on. Not a mention of the original song Brand New Key, which she wrote and had a huge hit with. Harrumph.

Very much not. I absolutely hated Queen, for reasons I can’t entirely remember but maybe the winds of punk were beginning to blow through the playground of Portsmouth High School.

I just had this image that if you kill a man and go to hell, the devil will put you in a sack and then presumably throw you into a fiery lake or similar.

I was watching the 1976 hits on BBC iPlayer last night and I discovered for the first time that the Bohemian Rhapsody lyrics are “Beelzebub has a devil put aside for me.” I always thought it was “Beelzebub! Has the devil got a sack for me?”

Yes, but I’m forever spraining ankles or falling over or out of things, or walking too quickly into tube barriers or automatic opening doors. Constantly covered in bruises. It’s amazing this is the first time since cancer!

I was always “accident-prone” as a child. “You’re always in a dream,” I was told. Yes. Yes I was.

It only occurred to me today that it’s the whirry ADHD part of my brain that makes me so prone to falling over in the street. When you’re staging a complicated dialogue in your head or your brain is distracted by a sudden shiny thought, you’re less likely to notice a kerb or pile of wet leaves.

I did it! Bit tentative crossing roads, had to make my whirry brain concentrate on the process of walking and avoiding wet leaves. Steep hill en route too, but I have walked 1.6 miles and my ankle is just a little sore.
Self-satisfied woman who walked to the post office and is now sitting on a damp bench summoning the energy to walk back uphill.

Because I had a massive surgery last year and then coped on my own, I have all the tricks for staying clean without having to clamber into the bath. Still got stacks of wet wipes!

Thinking quite hard about whether I can bear the disruption of having the bathroom redone with just a nice big walk-in shower (maybe with a little seat).

I had such a bad sprain on the other ankle two years ago - walking stick, weeks of physio. Slightly haunted by it. This one is nowhere near as bad.

Yes, I do. I had a really really bad sprain on the other ankle two years ago (probably why I’m so in my head on this one) which necessitated walking stick and extensive physio so I have all the exercises and kit!

Honestly I’m making such a drama out of my slight ankle sprain.

Hello Bluesky: today I will strap up my ankle and walk to the post office and back. Advice seems to be that if I can now do normal range of motions and roll up my foot properly as I walk, then walking is a good thing. Desperate to get out and about. Still scared to climb in the bath though… 😬

My mum rang my sister on WhatsApp the other day and somehow also looped in one of our cousins, my niece in Spain, my mum’s elderly friend from church and the man who did my mum’s curtains five years ago.
