"The "Employee Telemetry Chip", abbreviated ETC, is the standard-issue Thermal Division tracker implant, designed to monitor the vitals and biometrics of all employees.

Each device is implanted at the lower-back area of the head, near the neck, with direct access to the brain stem and major arteries. This allows the device to directly monitor the user's heart rate, blood pressure, blood oxygen level, and neuron activation potential within the brain. The direct neural interface is used across a wide range of Thermal Division products, allowing the user to wirelessly control certain machines and devices with their thoughts alone. In addition to the neural interface and vital sign monitoring, the sub-variant given to Contractors (more specifically, prisoner workers) features an injector loaded with Crystal Picric Acid, which can be triggered remotely by on-site administrators. This acid is very slow acting, designed to cause excruciating pain in order to coerce the subject into compliance. Once a large enough amount of acid is injected, it reacts violently when in contact with the user's blood, triggering an explosion capable of shattering the subject's skull and brain instantly.

This explosion is largely self contained, and, in most cases, leaves company equipment unharmed, allowing for it to be reused. The ETC is unfortunately destroyed in this process, but the money and time saved by eliminating non compliant employees outweighs the money spent manufacturing a new one."
