The same administration that has touted saving American taxpayers billions in "wasteful" spending by cutting programs for the American people has also spent potentially over $100 billion on its war of choice in Iran. And now it may receive $73 billion in additional funding from Congress.
Graphic titled "Weighing Priorities" by the Center for American Progress. Text reads: "The House has approved $73 billion in additional funding for Trump’s war with Iran. But what could that much money fund instead?" Below the text is an illustration of a blue balance scale tipped heavily to the left by a large red bomb with a lit fuse. The scale on the right holds a teal question mark. Source cited: CAP, "Weighing Priorities: What U.S. Spending on the Iran War Could Fund Instead" (2026).Infographic breakdown comparing spending priorities.

Text at top: "$73 billion in additional Iran war funding vs. $72.6 billion"

Bulleted breakdown of alternative funding totaling $72.6 billion:

$40 billion could provide Medicaid coverage to 5 million uninsured Americans.

$28 billion could provide free school lunch for every child in America.

$2.6 billion could restore funding for natural disaster infrastructure upgrades cut under Trump.

$2.1 billion could double fruit and vegetable assistance for infants, children, pregnant & breastfeeding women in the WIC program.

The House just took the first step towards giving Trump $73 billion MORE in funding for the war in Iran. That money could do a lot for the American people, like providing full Medicaid coverage and raising SNAP benefits. Use our interactive scale ⬇️ ampr.gs/4xhYIno

Official thoughts on the stupidity of the administration’s gutting of manufacturing investments:
DOE Cancellation of Clean Energy Projects is Job-Killing Action that Hurts Consumers, CAP’s Mike Williams Says

Washington, D.C. – Today, the Trump administration announced the cancellation of $3.7 billion in awards for emerging energy technologies issued during the previous administration. Many of these projects involved investments in industrial and manufacturing facilities to limit carbon emissions contributing to pollution and climate change. In response, Mike Williams, senior fellow at the Center for American Progress, issued the following comments:

"How can the administration claim to care about domestic manufacturing when it is gutting investments in the future of domestic manufacturing? These projects are not just reducing pollution, they are keeping the U.S. on the cutting edge of manufacturing technology. Canceling these important projects will raise energy prices for consumers and sacrifice thousands of high-quality union jobs, all because the president wants to curry favor with Big Oil.

The splitscreen tonight is a horror show. The House is amending its reconciliation bill to terminate clean energy investment even earlier. The Senate is shredding its rulebook in order to destroy a cornerstone of the Clean Air Act. The consequences will be felt for a long long time.

The House Republicans spending bill is Robin Hood in reverse. It smashes provisions like Medicaid and food assistance for poor Americans to give tax cuts to the already wealthy and big corporations.

Americans are already hurting from high energy costs, and now Congressional Republicans are attempting to raise costs even further by gutting clean energy tax credits… just to fund their #BigBillionaireBailout. Read more about the bill here: www.americanprogress.org/article/the-...

The House of Representatives is considering a bill that will lead to voter purges and widespread disenfranchisement of eligible voters. The SAVE Act stems from baseless claims of voter fraud and is part of a strategic, well-financed effort to suppress voting.
