I'm much happier to have listened to the presentation by Dr. Loth describing the ways that a research program moved from consultation to shared governance with autistic participants and the ways that this evolved across time. #SNS2026

At my first session at the Stanford Neurodiversity Summit and I'm deeply disappointed. The keynote from Dr Koegel started off by describing people in the autism spectrum, using person first language in spite of the preference for the overwhelming majority of autistic people.

Echolalia is not a breakdown in language. It is a continuation of the same tools humans use to learn, play, connect, and make meaning. The only difference is visibility.
Language is not a test to pass. It is a relationship to participate in.

New blog post! Libby Banks writes about grief and the different ways it can impact autistic people. autisticadvocacy.org/2026/06/auti...
Orange gradient background with large light orange stripes going across in different directions. There is a light blue diagonal stripe in the top left corner. In large blue text, “New Blog Post!” goes across one of the orange stripes near the top. There’s a quote box that is light blue with rounded corners, inside is the quote, “This piece is for the autistic people who have been told, by themselves or others, that they are grieving incorrectly. It is for the people whose grief arrived three years late, or in fragments at the wrong moments, or who still don’t know whether what they’re feeling is grief or something else.” Across a lower orange stripe is the text: Libby Banks — Autistic Grief: You’re Not Doing It Wrong

your poor autistic body feels and holds on to the stress. just because you've taught yourself not to feel it, doesn't mean you're not paying the price. many autistic accommodations can be invisible. if you suspect you may be on the spectrum, i urge you to be curious about that. it's really ok.

It's not a fucking compliment to tell someone that they don't seem like they need accomodations. Hello, the reason you think I'm as competent as I am is BECAUSE I use the accomodations I'm granted. I still NEED them to be this amazing.

Tonight was amazing. The Autistic Researchers Committee social at #insar2026 was an opportunity to connect with other autistic researchers and feel safe to be yourself. I sat at a table full of amazing people who comfortably info dumped about all the things for hours and enjoyed it thoroughly. 💛

Milton: What does "level 1" autism tell you about someone? Nothing. His own children's support needs are varied and fall all over the place. Instead of #profoundAutism and subcategories, we need personalized, individual evaluations to actually help autistics. Socially, family, all of it. #INSAR2026

Today I was able to share a method I developed, Communication Mapping, with a poster presentation at the International Society of Autism Researchers #insar26 annual conference. Many who stopped by were open to both echolalic function and centering autistic interpretation of their own experiences.

During April, there is a lot of token attention given to #Autism but #Autistic expertise is not often acknowledged. The absence of Autistic scholarship isn’t an accident. It’s a pattern. When we exclude Autistic voices, we don’t just miss perspective. We distort the entire field.
Autistic scholarship exists. And it's powerful. Damien Milton, Jac den Houting, Devon Price, Monique Botha, Remi Yergeau, Patrick Dwyer, Robert Chapman, Morenike Onaiwu, Steven K. Kapp, Dora Raymaker, TC Waisman, Stephen Shore and so many more!

My research centers non-normative language, like echolalia, and the stories it carries. I study how social expectations shape what counts as “real” communication and an the ways autistic people navigate those expectations. Communication isn't just about words, it's about meaning and connection.

I’m Jamie, an autistic educator and researcher. The interaction of language, power, and belonging is something I focus on. I care about the kinds of communication that get overlooked or misunderstood. I want to build spaces where people don’t have to sound a certain way to be taken seriously.

Autistic-led study neurodiversity-affirming research study seeking autistic adults who use echolalia or scripting. Flexible, online, no diagnosis required. jamiechase.com/study #ActuallyAutistic #AutisticAcademics #Neurodivergent #DisabilityJustice
A woman holds a speech bubble. The text reads Seeking Autistic Voices for an autistic-led neurodivergent communication study.
Are you an autistic adult who: Quotes or remixes lines from movies, shows, songs, or memes in daily conversation?

Finds that repeating phrases you’ve heard before helps you express yourself, regulate emotions, or connect with others?

Has been described as using “echolalia,” “scripting,” or “repetitive speech”?

If this sounds like you, I’d love to start a conversation about your communication experiences for a research study.
No formal diagnosis or specific way of speaking required!
