Daniel Dale at CNN has (another) good point: There are just some things he says that every single American knows through personal experience are total lies - and that's not good for him - or the Republicans who support him
Daniel Dale @ddale8. My personal opinion is that Trump's lying about prices - that they're way down from when he took office, that almost everything is cheaper now, that they're falling rapidly right now - is his single most politically damaging category of lie.

His lies about many subjects require some level of research/prior knowledge/political engagement to debunk. When he lies about prices, even devoted supporters are passively debunking him with their own eyes every day. x.com/tripgabriel/st…

Messages From The Heartland. Headlines from today's Des Moines Register #addiction #trafficking #transgender #politics

• Des Moines man given life sentence for trafficking homeless women

• 14 Iowans charged in central Iowa meth trafficking operation

• Democrat Dave Dawson unveiled his first ad of the election season, touting an anti-corruption-focused platform - says will hold Washington, D.C., "accountable." Dawson, a former Democratic state lawmaker, is running in Iowa's most conservative congressional district.

• NATO Secretary General Mark Rutte called President Donald Trump's security deal with Greenland and Denmark "fantastic news" on a visit to Iowa to highlight the importance of the alliance.

• Letter - Mike Draper's Sept. 13 guest essay concerning transgender people in sports fails to address the main issues:

	• Lack of privacy between cisgender females and biological males
    in locker rooms.

	• Unfair physical differences between cisgender females and
    biological males in sports.

• The Register's editorial - When candidates promise lower prices, don't believe them. Republicans are paying a political price for pledging to undo the inflation that crushed Americans during President Joe Biden’s term and finding themselves in a roughly similar mess with fuel prices.

• The wait is over. Some Iowa Republicans in Congress formally resisted President Donald Trump on something substantive

• Several Iowa Republicans on the ballot this fall are breaking with President Donald Trump on key policy issues as their races appear to tighten just weeks before the Nov. 3 midterms.

• Judge tosses Trump's suit against Des Moines Register over Iowa Poll

Not at all sure this is true. Trump can't ban the press from the UN. He can keep them from traveling with him and entering the White House (for now), but unless he has his people block the press from events (which they might well do) they'll still be able to report on the guy.

02) get your people put in power so they can make things worse
03) keep blaming your enemies
04) keep winning elections while saying elections are rigged because your side doesn’t always win.
05) blame media for lying (your enemies will agree and so help you on this one)
06) invent your own media to replace truth tellers.
07) have your media blame your enemies
08) blame teachers (and scientists)
09) install your own “teachers” (and “scientists)”
10) change the curriculum and whitewash history
11) enlist the disaffected you made that way
12) grab the purse strings
13) use taxpayer’s money against them
14) fund like minded groups at home and abroad.
15) begin the takeover of other countries (and their mineral rights).
16) control voting so people who figured out WHT you are doing can’t stop you
17) if they manage to anyway, declare martial law
18) refuse to seat anyone who won their election if they oppose you.
19) keep shoveling the money into your pockets
20) enslave everybody else, including the people who helped you wrest control

Yes. I can. Because it happened literally 3 months ago. And guess what? Democrats called for gun reform and right wingers made jokes about it. Trump said calling anybody to give his condolences would be a waste of time and then skipped the funeral. So we don't have to imagine. It literally just happened.

Stock chart for Chevron, showing the stock price has increased almost 50% in the past year, with the one major downward trend reversing on July 1. The stock is now 10 cents from reaching its all-time high. AI generated narrative below the chart says, "Chevron advanced over the past month, driven upwards by a strong second-quarter earnings beat and escalating geopolitical tensions that pushed oil prices higher. For next quarter, market consensus suggests that the company will sustain its operational momentum, although analysts project that a potential cooling in crude prices could test near-term upside." (NYT) Whistle-Blower Says Trump Officials Are Defying Court Orders on Voting by Mail. A report detailed “grave concerns” that a new system being rushed into use by the U.S. Postal Service could imperil millions of mail ballots ahead of the midterm elections.
But days before the court ruled, the Postal Service formally published a new plan to comply with the executive order. Judge Indira Talwani, a Federal District Court judge in Massachusetts, reasoned that the stakes had changed with the new plan and temporarily blocked it, concluding that the agency’s plan appeared to overstep its legal mandate and could spark chaos by changing rules a little more than two months before an election.

The whistle-blower report provided specific details of the Postal Service’s effort to rapidly implement a new digital system for mail ballots, even as a federal appeals court had blocked the plan before the Supreme Court intervened. Work has also continued on the system even after Judge Talwani ordered the plan halted last week, the report said.

The official at the Postal Service raised “grave concerns” in the report that the verification process in the system could reject tens of thousands of ballots in a bulk-mailing batch if “even one bar code on one single ballot” failed to properly scan, and that the rushed, “slapdash” development of the system would significantly increase the chance of errors and other failures in the verification process.

Trump, his attorneys, cabinet members and spokespeople all have this on a laminated card. It's designed to keep them from crossing the line.
Depending on the jurisdiction, the relationship between the parties, and the exact context of the communication, a person who allegedly prompts or encourages others to commit an attack can face several specific criminal charges:

Solicitation to Commit a Crime of Violence: Charged when someone explicitly commands, requests, encourages, or endeavors to persuade another person to commit a felony involving physical force or violence.

Incitement to Violence or Inciting a Riot: Charged if the speaker urges or instigates a group or crowd to engage in immediate, unlawful acts of force, violence, or public destruction.

Aiding and Abetting / Accomplice Liability: If the targeted attack actually occurs, the person who spurred the attackers can be charged as an accomplice or accessory to the underlying crime (e.g., assault, battery, or murder), holding them legally responsible for the resulting acts.

Criminal Conspiracy: Charged if there was an agreement or shared plan between the instigator and the attackers to execute the physical harm, paired with an overt step taken toward carrying out that plan.
Criminal Threats or Intimidation: Charged if the instigation involved threatening violence directly or using intimidating behavior to compel others to commit acts against their will.

Disorderly Conduct or Breach of the Peace: Frequently used as lower-level or misdemeanor charges when speech or actions intentionally provoke immediate violence or public disorder.

The legal distinction often rests on intent (whether the person explicitly intended for violence to happen) and imminence (whether the speech was intended to produce immediate lawless action rather than abstract advocacy).

Of course I had to ask. AI wants you to know the limitation isn't what AI can do, but what the people in power decide to use all that power for. Guess what? It's all about short term gains - for them, tho a lot of it comes from leveraging humanity's weaknesses […] [Original post on mstdn.social]
1. The Ideal AI Allocation vs. Reality
When frontier AIs are prompted to evaluate global risk priorities based on scientific consensus (from sources like the IPCC, UN, and World Economic Forum), they systematically rank climate stabilization, grid decarbonization, food security, and pandemic prevention as the highest-yield targets for compute.

However, the real-world allocation of compute reflects an economic mismatch:

WHERE COMPUTE IS ACTUALLY GOING
Commercial / Consumer AI (LLMs, ads, video, search) (High immediate revenue) ~85% – 90%

Enterprise Tech & Finance Guaranteed ROI) ~8% – 10%
(Adtech, trading, logistics)

Decarbonization & Clean Tech (Grid AI, battery design) (Public-good, long payoff) ~1% – 3%

The issue isn't that AI technology can't help solve energy problems—it's that the most profitable use of a $40,000 GPU today is generating code, processing consumer queries, or targeting advertisements, not simulating perovskite solar cell stability.2. The Energy Paradox
The tension is heightened by a clear paradox: AI is expanding the very energy crisis it could help solve.

Vast Energy Intake: Data centers supporting modern AI compute are consuming immense amounts of electricity globally. In several regions, utilities have delayed the retirement of coal and natural gas plants specifically to supply guaranteed 24/7 power to giant AI data centers.

Geopolitical Strain: Beyond emissions, this massive energy requirement intensifies competition for land, water, grid capacity, and critical minerals—re-amplifying the precise geopolitical and economic pressures you pointed out.3. How AI Leaders & Researchers Respond
When tech executives, AI ethicists, and climate scientists are pressed on this mismatch, three primary arguments emerge:

A. The "Enabler" Argument (The Industry Perspective)
Tech companies argue that expanding raw commercial AI capacity is a necessary prerequisite for scientific breakthroughs. In this view, building massive $100B compute clusters for general commercial use creates the foundational "supercomputing engines" that researchers later leverage to run complex simulations—such as discovering new battery chemistries, room-temperature superconductors, or nuclear fusion plasma controls.

B. The "Jevons Paradox" Counterpoint (The Policy & Climate Perspective)
Climate researchers point out that efficiency alone rarely reduces overall consumption. As AI algorithms become faster or cleaner, lower costs simply drive a massive surge in total usage (known as the rebound effect or Jevons Paradox). Without explicit government regulation or carbon pricing, market forces naturally divert newly freed compute right back into high-margin consumer and business products.C. The Directed Compute Movement (The Proposed Solution)
To address this market failure, a growing movement among policy think tanks, universities, and international bodies advocates for "Public Compute Reserves" or dedicated green computing quotas:
Government Mandates: Requiring hyperscale data centers to allocate a fixed percentage of GPU cycles (e.g., 5% to 10%) directly to open-source climate science, renewable grid management, and clean material research.

Clean-Energy Offsets: Forcing data center operators to build or finance more localized renewable energy capacity (wind, solar, geothermal, or small modular nuclear) than their facilities consume, turning AI hubs into net-positive drivers for grid decarbonization.

Summary
The current allocation of compute power is governed by capital markets, not human-priority optimization. Until public policy, carbon costs, or regulatory frameworks force tech companies to treat compute as a public resource, the vast majority of processing power will continue driving commercial software, while a small fraction works on fundamental energy infrastructure.

AI wants you to know AI is working the problem and making some gains - even though it's not working on it all that hard.
How Compute Fits Into the Broader Energy Transition
While solar vehicles occupy a minuscule share, the ~1–3% of compute directed toward broader energy decarbonization produces disproportionately high real-world impacts:

Grid Optimization & Weather Forecasting: AI models process satellite and weather data to forecast wind and solar generation hours in advance. This allows electrical grids to dynamically balance renewable intermittency, preventing fossil-fuel peaker plants from turning on. The IEA estimates AI grid optimization can improve efficiency by 10%–15%.

AI-Driven Material Discovery: Machine learning models (such as deep learning screening algorithms) analyze millions of hypothetical chemical compounds in days to identify candidates for solid-state batteries, green hydrogen catalysts, and stable perovskite tandem solar cells.

Industrial & Building Efficiency: Machine learning manages HVAC, refrigeration, and manufacturing power profiles, saving up to 10%–20% in facility energy consumption without altering hardware.

Decarbonizing power generation relies far more on using compute to stabilize the central power grid and discover better stationary energy storage than on engineering self-charging solar cars. A vehicle plugged into a 100% clean, AI-optimized regional power grid achieves the same fossil-free goal with far fewer engineering compromises.

“How can I even focus on my military career because I have to worry about how my wife is doing?” said Army Sgt. Hedar
Parents and spouses of people in the military have generally been shielded from deportation under bipartisan consensus for decades. But the AP found they’re now routinely being detained for months as they try to adjust their legal status through the policies available to service members’ close relatives and even as the military continues to recruit by advertising immigration benefits for enlistees’ families. Experts warn that the reversal could undermine military preparedness even as the U.S. is at war in Iran. It’s left military members without emotional support and caretakers for their children, delayed deployments and forced some to take leave.

“How can I even focus on my military career because I have to worry about how my wife is doing?” said Army Sgt. Hedar Leonel Turcios Juarez, who was stationed in Fort Bliss, Texas,

Here, in two pics, the problem with America is laid bare. BONUS: the reason Trump blamed Walz for cyberattacks on #minnesota water systems is laid bare as well. Most Americans want the same things. Keeping us from talking to each other, realizing that and […] [Original post on mstdn.social]
Post on X. Tim Walz reaction to a CBS News story describing the sad state of the reflecting pool as Trump's hasty work failed. CBS links to a video story. Tim Walz

@Tim_Walz - "Found an imaginary problem, said only they could fix it, didn’t listen to experts, hired buddies who grifted millions, failed miserably, bragged how great it went."

Jun 18 - Paint was seen peeling from the floor of the Lincoln Memorial Reflecting Pool in Washington, D.C. on Thursday, weeks after a $14 million renovation that included a new color President Trump called “American Flag Blue.”Responses on X to Tim Walz' comment on the reflecting pool repair failures - which the DOJ recently admitted in a court filing were the result of exactly what Gov. Walz said.

Except you left out the vandalism part. You lying pos. You democrats are legitimately evil.

(PIC) • Confirmed vandalism occurred, including a man's arrest for cutting sealant pieces and prior "86 47" graffiti, alongside the pool's long history of algae and maintenance issues under multiple administrations.

Speaking of Trump trying to out Bibi by dropping 2,000 lb. bombs on civilians, considering how many Americans think we should stop arming the guy . . .
WASHINGTON POST EXCLUSIVE - U.S. general warns Pentagon he lacks sufficient forces to protect Israel. A shortage of Navy destroyers, used to defend against Iranian ballistic missile attacks, will force the head of U.S. European Command to prioritize the U.S. homeland instead, officials said.

#Kansas voters - out of staters promoting The Kansas Elections for Supreme Court Justices Amendment sure are nice to run ads showing you what they’ll be back doing to any candidate for your Supreme Court they don’t like if given the chance. Check out the pics […] [Original post on mstdn.social]
Official Kansas Governmental Ethics Commission reports filed on July 20, 2026, show that Kansans for Democracy, Inc. received 100% of its funding—$1.7 million—from a single out-of-state entity: First Principles Action (based in Nashville, Tennessee). Read the closed caption. No, your Supreme Court didn't "side with a murderer." They reversed his conviction due to prosecutorial misconduct (violating court orders by referencing excluded ballistics evidence). He's still in jail, awaiting re-trial. Supporters of the Amendment want you to believe your Supreme Court let a murder “go free,” by showing you Devonte Wash who remains continuously held in maximum-security custody, bound by a $5 million bail amount, awaiting his retrial in Johnson County.

It just kept bouncing around in my head until it turned into this.
A detailed, but not photo realistic illustration, of a man's baseball cap, with the stars and stripes of the United States flag covering the bill, with the kind of undulations associated with the flag flying in a good breeze. The cap itself is a much darker blue than that used on the flag. The phrase, "Make CONGRESS Great Again" is written just above the brim with the word CONGRESS in a slightly larger font. Above the phrase is the acronym MCGA. Behind the hat, just enough out of focus to assure the hat predominates the image, is a wide shot of the U.S. Capitol building. The building is placed at enough distance that some sky shows above it and is offset to the left of the hat.

Graphic showing Hold Room 1 with 86 detainees. The size of the room meant every person had 10 square feet of space to stand or lie down. Data for 26 Federal Plaza and other detention facilities is from ICE records obtained by the Deportation Data Project, an organization based at the University of California at Berkeley and UCLA that obtains immigration data through Freedom of Information Act requests and shares it with the public. The data covers Sept. 30, 2022, through March 10, 2026. Population and length-of-stay estimates for New York’s holding facility were calculated by The Post in the same manner as detailed in federal court filings, using detainees’ book-in and book-out dates and times; records without a book-out date were excluded. The Post used the daily maximum population when considering daily figures. Population estimates for individual rooms were created by dividing total facility population figures by room square footage numbers disclosed in the court filings, assuming a proportional distribution of individuals across rooms. Our estimates were checked for accuracy whenever possible against testimony from detainees and other reports and documents in the court filings.

Hegseth kips. Any woman in the Marines will tell you that's forbidden. www.theatlantic.com/magazine/2026/0…
Top: Proper pull-up form, as demonstrated by a Marine Corps officer. Bottom: Secretary Hegseth’s form is inconsistent. In one clip from the “Pete & Bobby Challenge,” he does a chin-up and raises his knees to give himself additional oomph—a technique known as “kipping” that is forbidden by the Marines.
