One of the best things I made this year for sentiment and passion alone, a gift to an incredible young Palaeo enthusiast and her wonderful family who I got to surprise with this at Lyme Regis. I like working with marine scenes, and I’m really happy they liked it ☺️

An unlucky Sauropodlet gets snatched up by a Megaraptoran before it can splash across a shallow stream. These make prehistoric animals 140-141 for the year, but I’ve been tinkering with this print for a while. Rather pleased with the base as it’s practice for possible future projects

Painting for an exhibition meant I wanted them to stand out. At close to 18 metres in real life length they were not hiding but the dappled greys was to help blend into large forests, but nearer the rivers and lowlands of the Wealden these giants towered over the terrain. Was lots of fun to paint 🥹

@polydontid.bsky.social I use a two part casting resin, I pour this into the already modelled up base board (in this case with the edges sealed with uv resin) to minimise leaks. I usually tint it with a little blue or green so it’s easier to mix through and then leave it to set.

One Irritator waits patiently for the fish to get close, the other has fed and is clambering up the bank using its gular pouch to hold the fish. I added lots of vegetation purely as speculation because fishing in the shade seems more sensible. It also upped the colours and added scale

So one thing I often find translating art into 3D (except for the work of @emilyhiggs-art.bsky.social which just always works) is the need to add extra details, in this case the extra spots of black and white replaced the heavy scaling in the art. The colours are similar but not exactly the same
