The journey from Victoria via public transit was a long one - left the hotel at 9:45am and arrived at the hotel here in Coal Harbour around 3:20pm. But I saw orcas from the ferry!

The view from the hotel is out over the Gorge towards downtown. I walked over the Selkirk Trestle and back to get some groceries. Victoria is always beautiful. Seaplanes flying over and the Olympic Mountains in the distance too.

Live music at the Riverside Resort in beautiful Crawford, ON (nearish to Hanover). Sparse crowd but we are enjoying the tunes courtesy Midnight Special.

Kincardine was kinda nice. Classic small town Ontario vibes. Super quiet considering it’s a long weekend.

Ran 25km this morning and it was really great. A big morale booster compared to the 23km run two weeks ago. The reward was the views from the new bit of Biidaasige Park and a larger Ice Aroma.

Back from a few days up north at Grundy Lake Provincial Park. We rented a camper van and it was lovely. Back to work though...if the Internet had been usable up there, I'd have stayed another day or two.

I've had better 23km runs, but I've also run easier routes. Enjoyed the new East Don Trail and caught a view of the Supertri Toronto 2026 athletes on their bikes heading up the DVP from the Overlea Bridge.
A rusted steel pedestrian bridge crosses a wooded ravine, seen from a wildflower meadow with Queen Anne's lace and black-eyed Susans in the foreground and apartment towers visible in the distance.A view straight down the length of a corten steel pedestrian bridge, with a wood-plank deck, mesh side panels, and an overhead lattice roof, flanked by dense green treetops. An angled view along a mesh-covered steel pedestrian bridge showing its truss framework and railings, with a wildflower meadow below and city towers visible on the horizon. An aerial view looking down a multi-lane highway curving through a forested valley, with cars in the near lanes, two cyclists riding in a coned-off lane on the far side, and a green "Don Mills Rd South" exit sign.

A couple of railfan shots from Wednesday (in-office day). Caught a VIA Rail Venture set westbound through Exhibition Station alongside a 12-car GO heading east towards Union Station with an older cab car trailing. #trains #railfan #viarail
This is a VIA Rail Canada train, specifically a Siemens Venture trainset, identifiable by the number 2314 on the front of the cab. These trains are primarily used on VIA Rail's Corridor routes, which connect major cities in Ontario and Quebec such as Toronto, Montreal, Ottawa, and Quebec City. This image shows the rail corridor leading into Union Station in downtown Toronto. You can see a VIA Rail train on the left and a GO Transit commuter train on the right, with the city skyline in the background.

Currently experiencing the highest temperature I’ve experienced in my 9+ years using Carrot Weather. It’s hot. We could break an all-time heat record going back to 1948 in Toronto. Northern Ontario saw 40°C.

Twin F59PH spotting day on Wednesday. One in the new GO livery from a westbound GO outside Union. Another still wearing the old paint scheme at Danforth. I've always liked the looks of EMB passenger locos. F40PH is iconic on long distance trains and the F59PH is the same for the commuter scene.

It's heating up in the Netherlands! We trained over to Utrecht for lunch and then Gouda after that. Took the train back to Amsterdam this afternoon which was nicely air conditioned, but oh boy the trams in Amsterdam are een beetje warm. Here is a photo of Gouda, which is simply lovely.

Treated myself earlier. Kawartha Dairy on Danforth near Donlands is solid. It’s not Ed’s, but it’s way better than the big chain ice cream shops.

Went for a nice walk today to enjoy the sunshine and passed by the new(ish) Morley Callaghan Footbridge over Rosedale Valley. A gem in the city whether you are passing over, under or just passing by. #toronto

Really nice morning for a run with the boys. Crossed over the DVP a few times to see the people riding up and down for the Ride for Brain Health. A rare non-rainy Sunday for that ride.

Just a bit of snow. Got our sidewalk cleared and the driveway mostly done in case we need to get somewhere. Also cleared around the fire hydrant. Awaiting the inevitable duel between the road plow and sidewalk plow.

Back from a nice camping weekend. Awoke to the sounds of the waves hitting the rocky shores of Georgian Bay. Walked 30ft. to the beach for the sunrise. Had bacon and eggs by the fire with a lake view. Wandered around Thornbury with a latte before the drive home.

The inspo for this camping weekend was to get up to Thornbury Craft Co. since we’ve been drinking their cider all summer. Taproom has live music, flights and food.
Flight of various ciders. Brisket Sammy on a bun with fries. Live musician under a tent with an acoustic guitar.

How long have I been listening to podcasts? My first player was a Creative Nomad IIc. I bought it off a clearance table somewhere in like 2005? 128MB of internal storage but the IIc had an SD Card slot.

I've been trying to remember the name of a big machine I used to operate when I was working in TV post production like 20 years ago. It cut one-off laserdiscs. I asked ChatGPT this morning and it straight up just told me that I was probably thinking of the ODC LVDR-610. And it was correct.
