How is it possible that The Grauniad made it to paragraph 4 of his obit before mentioning his felonious past? Are we whitewashing that now? What next, claiming that both Aitken and Hamilton were squeaky clean?

In a completely unrelated development, the Home Builders Federation are hosting a panel discussion at CPC tomorrow on “the viability crunch in housing developments”. Sure it’s just coincidence though…

This Simon Clarke? The 42yr old Simon Clarke? The one who was born 4 years after the 70s ended? What does he remember of the 70s except the inside of his old man’s ball bag?

@garethdennis.uk RAIB Interim report for Bedford talks about a nearly 10m reduction in length of the trains. Even with expected intervehicle deformation/crumpling, this feels like a lot! Is it or is this the expected crash worthiness from modern rolling stock?

Likewise. I’m in a predicament in that my “bar” for voting Labour has to be lower (thanks FPTP) as we’re probably in a 3-way marginal between CON, LAB and REF next time round. Does frustrate me with a lost 2 years as well, especially as I stayed up to watch results in 2024 buoyed by excitement.

Decisions made by closed-minded people living in ideological bubbles where the “brown people” are out “to do us harm”. 2029 should be about the Millennials and Gen Z…not the triple lock.

Who will still be very much of working age. Home ownership, the ability to secure decent jobs, the hope that we can raise a family in safety (environmental and as a country) and with reassurance that it doesn’t all get whipped away from under us by callous utilities companies or stupid

Electoral suicide would be keeping something that the remaining 79% of voters are unlikely to ever see benefit from. 3% of voters in 2029 will still be in 6th form or college, and 22% younger than 34. The 2029 election will be won and lost on issues that matter to that 25% and the 50ish percent

www.theguardian.com/politics/liv... OK, keep the triple lock… as long as I can benefit from it in 26 years time. “Electoral suicide” will only occur if the majority of voters would be benefiting from it. In 2029, it’s expected that over 65’s will make up only 21% of the population.

As a plus point, he and the 46 things he subscribes to on Substack gave me 47 new things to block. John is most definitely living in his mum’s box room and is most certainly an incel based on those (paid) subs.

Ah but that doesn’t fit the narrative here or in the Graun… which is that whichever Labour PM there is, they’re not leftist enough or they’re destined to fail. And I say this as a subscriber (just not to their ideology of tearing down Labour PMs).

With decent, quantifiable criteria, we can do something decent… I’ve let contracts where performance is incumbent on both the number of apprentices recruited and those successfully completing it and getting a job. It’s a start but this potentially unlocks more ability as a public sector procurer.

How do you measure the success or adherence to your environmental evaluation criteria within your tenders? Because I’ve never found suppliers to be great at doing anything other than greenwashing and failing to measure the KPIs… and that’s the same for every other colleague I know across GCF.

I am such a team player. Whilst my wife goes out for a run, I’ve eaten the last third of the ripe, unpasteurised, creamy and flavourful Camembert D’Isigny Sainte-Mère because it was smelling out the fridge. She truly doesn’t know how lucky she is…

My instagram algorithm has become increasingly niche… with it serving up a (French language) interview from @lequipe-actu.bsky.social with the man at @letour.stadio.top who repaints the phalluses on the road on each stage into rabbits or butterflies. #nichesportscontent

Worse than that, I think it probably stems from the 1787 Constitutional Convention which determined that slaves were to be considered 3/5ths of a person in calculating state populations and therefore electoral representation. That old Klansman dad thing really wore off on ole Donnie…

This definitely bears repeating. @garethdennis.uk podcasts on Great Heck and Morpeth also repeat this and the progress made since the mk1 coaches of old. Worth celebrating (even though that doesn’t feel appropriate just yet).

I am informed this morning that my mother seems to have instigated some sort of Marxist U3A current affairs splinter group. They meet away from the rest of the U3A group at different members’ houses. Has my mother created a rural-based Weather Underground?!

Authority apparently requires a conference with involvement of NMCC. Vance would be part of that, and is probably perceived as not “hawkish” enough when compared to Hegseth. Hence, move him out of the way and Hegseth/Trump get their bucket of instant sunshine.

Why do you think Pakistan is promoting itself as an interlocutor, along with Turkey, Egypt and Saudi Arabia? PAK and KSA would be ideally placed for stopover destinations. Former Soviet states would be possibly risky with a hawkish Putin. Another Ukraine in Turkmenistan is possible!

Unfortunately they post “objectively” right up until they shill for Labour. They also will defend labour, right up until presented with a difficult view and they “just post the info as it’s available” and “don’t get into discussions”. I’m 90% convinced it’s a sock puppet account.

I don’t think Guides are entirely innocent in this. A simple change to their membership rules would have removed this issue entirely. The Scouts don’t have this issue because they’re not exclusive to one gender. They’re electing to simp for this “rule”…

Yeah, but the ability to drink “train tins” is at least 40% of the UK citizenship test… if you can answer questions on history then you’re set for asylum here. We have far better trains.

My other half shared a room with the wife of one when we had our second child… they spoke very passionately about the way they managed the land. I think it’s a genuine “top to bottom” belief in it. Can only be a good thing! We just need many others to do the same.

Hey, isn’t that the sort of thing that USAID used to do? You know, soft power and all that jazz. Who could have foreseen that China (they of the Belt and Road Initiative) might have filled that void left by USAID and the UK DFID.
