Here is Njgel Farage in a Reform UK X video about his visit to the Scottish Parliament. He is talking to Senga Beresford, the Reform MSP who in 2024 supported calls for all Muslims to be deported and backed Tommy Robinson. Obviously that's no big deal in Reform circles. www.itv.com/news/border/...

A short thread on ‘rogue’ AI. One of the fundamental features of this genre of AI is that it disrespects and disregards rights. It is intended to seek out and learn from data, and rights don’t really enter into the equation except when absolutely forced. That covers a wide range of kinds of right.

As Sir Humphrey might have said in Yes Prime Minister, it was a very courageous decision of the far right in the UK to pose a binary question to the electorate. "Are you on the side of Tommy Robinson and his mates, or are you on the side of the RNLI?"

We go to the Isle of Jura once or twice a year. This is one of my favourite Jura photos. Sometimes in Scotland you don't have to try very hard to spot the wildlife. You can just stop the car and take a photo.

Farage is presenting a by-election as a contest between the electorate of Clacton and the rules applying to all MPs. He wants the by-election to supplant a parliamentary investigation. If he wins he will argue that a victory at the polls trumps the law. That is unacceptably dangerous.

The Trump/FIFA scandal showed something we all knew about Trump. There might be no appeal process for red cards in the World Cup, and a ban is mandatory, but rules and the law are for little people to worry about. Trump doesn't think they apply if you have the phone number of the FIFA President.

You could "solve" football's handball rule by using sensors to determine when the ball hits the hand. But that would completely transform the game. There is a similar risk elsewhere - that we penalise what is easiest to measure, not what matters most. www.aipolicyperspectives.com/p/the-world-...

Sometimes LinkedIn is a mystery. A year ago I posted this about a bank stopping staff using their own devices for confidential work. Today I found out that my post had been taken down, then reinstated, but visible only to me, with no explanation whatsoever.
"Quite right. I've worked as an IT auditor in financial services and an information security manager so I fully approve of this action. These practices should have been stamped out long ago.
Even as a development team leader I took a dim view of my team using their own devices or unofficial channels for work.
As PG Wodehouse put it, more or less, it is never difficult to distinguish between a Scottish dev team lead taking a dim view and a ray of sunshine."

This is nonsense from the BBC. The Tory plus Reform UK vote in this constituency totalled 67 votes more than the SNP got. For the Tories to have taken the seat in the absence of Reform would have required 99% of Reform voters to break for the Tories. That completely misreads the Reform vote.
