Objecting or opting out are both options. The lawyers achieved a meaningful result but more than $15,000 an hour is the rate being sought. Compare that to the $1500 net you’re getting for months worth of work.

Opting out allows you to try to bring your case to trial but there is a chance that you get nothing. Many authors may get less than $1000 per book after fees and taxes, and are willing to take this risk on principle.

Opting out is surer thing money minus whatever fees you have to pay to a publisher or agent, etc. Also, settlement agreement is not being funded immediately, but over the course of two years so there’s no guarantee that anyone’s getting paid this year. Maybe 2 years or more with appeals possible

No. Settlement agreement provides time for authors to opt out by January 7, but they may also opt in back in by the beginning of March. I represent more than two dozen authors who are weighing their options right now. They all have legal rights and they all are trying to evaluate their rights.

No Rachel, I’m a legitimate lawyer representing legitimate authors who won’t accept the $3000 minus whatever their publisher’s take. The Anthropic settlement agreement allows for opt outs. please go read it.

A question every reporter should be asking Trump and Republicans: If Trump doesn't trust his own Director of National Intelligence, and by extension, US intelligence, then which country's intelligence is he relying upon?

D-G reports AG Tim Griffin has received nearly $30K in free family trips to Italy, France, S. Korea, CA & Seattle from Attorney General Alliance, funded by corporate donors & lobbyists trying to get cozy with AGs. Here's some @apnews.com reporting on group: apnews.com/article/us-s... #arpx #Arkansas

About half of US state AGs went on France trip sponsored by group with lobbyist and corporate funds
The trip illuminates how corporate lawyers and lobbyists can gain access to officials who regulate their businesses with help from the Attorney General Alliance, one of the groups behind the event.

The current administration just raised taxes by 25% on goods on all Americans that come from Canada and Mexico and a 10% tax hike on goods from China. Your hard earned money just got a whole lot weaker. Tarriffs are taxes on you the consumer. So weak and shortsighted.

One reason why I think respectability is stupid is because it's often used as a mask. Such judgements are rarely about the clothes themselves, but more often about the bodies beneath them. To wit, no one raised an issue when Elon wore a graphic t-shirt and ball cap to meet the Trump cabinet.
Two photos: One shows Zelenskyy in a black quarter zip at the White House meeting, the other shows Elon Musk in a black graphic t-shirt, black topcoat, and black ball cap, also meeting with the Trump cabinet.
