Super loud slow hand clap for Apple. No longer doing country-specific curation for podcasts. Wonder why? Have they been told to do this? Or is this the latest example of a once pretty good company becoming like Microsoft, ie. sh*t. If you podcast, follow @podnews.net podnews.net/update/apple...

Huh. That’s interesting. Do you get a version with bbc.com/news in the bottom, or does it still say bbc.co.uk/news there? (If .co.uk then perhaps this is a “special event” due to the breaking news)

Just discovered that the BBC News channel (UK) is now carried live on YouTube - I’m assuming UK only. Most surprised that they’ve left the comments on. The opportunities for libel, or subjudice - or worse - seem obvious. Really?!

The studio for the Podnews Daily today - Fitzroy Square in central London. I stood facing this railing (it’s a private garden) since it’s a quiet square away from what Peter Sellers would call “traffics noise”. Now to go and mix/edit/publish.

This is very cool. @play.date now has a radio app, so you can use it to listen to the radio. You can't tune it to anything specific, so it's just a tune up and down the dial to find a station you think you might like: probably the right way to think about it anyway

We held a round of interviews for students once. Most turned up in suits. One person turned up in a scrumpled t-shirt of a monster taking a piss. Piss-monster got the job. He was brilliant.

I watched the new Grand Tour on the plane (ep one). It’s very good. Gentle humour, warm, friendly. Clearly defined characters, including a geeky bloke for whom everything is just a joy. Nice cameos from Clarkson, May and Hammond. Did not think I would like it. Did, very much. Good.

Radio’s audience has held up well. Interestingly it’s less relevant now after the BBC decided to put its own BBC Sounds ahead of Radioplayer and withdraw almost everything apart from the live radio…

@jakekanter.bsky.social @scottygb.bsky.social Interesting to compare telly’s Kangaroo with radio’a Radioplayer. All of radio played along with it - some properly (BBC, Global), some less well (Bauer). It was a success, with the tech now being used in many different countries.

Flying to a conference tomorrow. First time flying since very early June. I’ve literally forgotten how to pack, and how to prepare. I’ve been dithering about with my suitcase for a while, and I know there’s something I’ve not packed and no real idea what I’ve forgotten. Very odd feeling.

Good grief. Even now, more than 25 years since I was on the radio, I'm still worrying about whether I'm allowed to mention some of the candidates of the Clacton by-election in any way on polling day. Those Ofcom rules never leave you. Thankfully, they don't cover @podnews.net . Phew.
Congratulations to Audacia Audio’s Kym Treasure, who is the winner of the Entrepreneur Award at Mediaweek Australia’s Next of the Best.
Also, congratulations to Candace Wilson from Your Podcast Producer, who appeared on a recent episode of BBC Radio 4's Woman’s Hour, giving advice on how to start a podcast.
And also, to Jon Harvey, podcaster (Trash Talk) and independent space warrior, who, wearing a bin on his head, is standing in a British election today against a toad.

Wore my @countbinface.osintnet.uk t-shirt to the coffee shop this morning, in Brisbane, Australia. Promptly forgot I was wearing it. Someone came up to me and wished me good luck. “Why?” I asked. “Oh,” I said, looking down at my t-shirt. Binface supporters are everywhere.

Podcasting is a weirdly unique industry. Everything we want to grow the industry comes from the podcast app. Better metrics and better consumption all starts in a podcast app. Yet, the podcast app earns nothing from the industry. That has to change. podnews.net/article/podc...
