Happy Friday! We are experiencing one more summery day before the temperatures go down and rain comes in just in time for the weekend. Not the best luck, but maybe it will motivate me to get some things done over said weekend. Enjoy the summer vibes while you can! USL Championship Player of the Month Nominees – September (USL Championship)

Welcome to Wednesday everyone. We've got a lot of news today. There were plenty of international call ups for the Spirit and DC Power and the USMNT played. Let's hop straight to it. USWNT roster named ahead of October international window (SSFC) This international window, the USWNT will play a pair of huge friendlies against the top ranked women's team in the world, Spain.

Good morning DC Footy Folk! Not much from me this morning other than some sore legs from pick up soccer last night! Let's jump into the footy news! Atlanta revealed the new team name and crest for the team that will debut in 2028. I think the general online consensus is "love the crest, hate the name". I think the trend of naming American teams United, FC, or City should be gone!

Happy Friday! D.C. United Acquires $75,000 in 2026 GAM from Chicago Fire FC in Exchange for a 2026 International Roster Slot (D.C. United)If you're not going to use the slot, you might as well trade it for some Garberbucks. In news that came as a major relief to those of us who watched Washington Spirit's game against Chicago Stars last weekend, …

Welcome to Thursday. OK, enough chit chat. On to the news! The Spirit organization houses international quality talents, and the callups of Gabby Carle, Tamara Bolt, and Sandy MacIver to their respective national teams are a testament to that dedication to quality acquisition. The Bolt Brazil callup (her first ever) is especially gratifying, hope she gets some time to show her stuff in the upcoming break.

DC Power FC is back at Audi Field for a weekday matchup as they take on Fort Lauderdale United FC. DC Power is coming off a draw last Friday night against the Tampa Bay Sun and hope to get some more points to stay above the playoff line. Currently, DC Power sits fourth in the USL Super League standings with 8 points from 6 matches, 2 points behind Dallas Trinity and Sporting Jacksonville.

Good morning DC Footy Folk! It's been awhile since I've been able to use the "rainy" Freedom Kicks theme. Make sure you have an umbrella ready with you most of this week! Anyways, let's go to the footy news! DC Power are playing a rare (and rainy) weekday game today at Audi today. You can pop the second half on during lunch if you have Peacock.

Happy Monday, everyone. Tomorrow, we enter the autumnal equinox, and we will be officially in Fall. My favorite season. it means we're about to enter the best season of the year: Hoodie SZN. I'm definitely ready for the cool temps. Here we go, let's recap what was a busy weekend! Controversial call denies DC United points in loss to Charlotte FC (DP)

In dire need of a 'Get Right' game, the Washington Spirit headed to the Get Right Warehouse that is a match against the Chicago Stars. The job would be more complicated for the Spirit than other teams, as the Stars announced the hire of Vlatko Andonovski days before the game, giving the club, players and fans a light at the end of the tunnel.

It's Friday! I've got a fair amount of news for you today, and we're looking at a couple of beautiful days before a cold and rainy start to Fall. Sounds like a lovely day. Pochettino calls in 28-man USMNT roster for September-October friendlies (SSFC)Mauricio Pochettino has announced the roster for USMNT's upcoming games, and it's sporting a lot of new, younger faces.

Welcome to Wednesday everyone. I don't have much by way of a soccer intro for everyone today. Up here in the Northland, it feels like we have finally reached true fall, which is probably my favorite time of year weather-wise. Things have started to cool off and the mosquitoes have returned to whatever hell they were forged in. Of course now that I write this, it will probably race back into the 90's next week.

Good morning DC Footy Folk! Today is the start of Hispanic Heritage Month (and independence day for many countries in Latin America)! In honor of that, here is an interesting video from a years back featuring Sofia Huerta and Ashley Sanchez talking about what it means to them to be Latina! Let's jump into the footy news! D.C. United’s Away Match Against FC Cincinnati Rescheduled for October 21…

Happy Monday, everyone. Well, it wasn't really a happy weekend on the soccer field for our teams. Let's get into it: DC United claws its way to scoreless draw against Atlanta United (DP) DC United had the only result of the weekend, and it was a scoreless draw where they had a total of 4 shots Washington Spirit struggle in 3-0 home loss to Boston Legacy: Match report (Green Line Soccer)

Happy Friday! A friend has asked me to watch the Manchester Derby with her this weekend (or at least as much as we can before the Spirit game, OF COURSE), and I'm not sure what I should do to prepare. How do I decide who to root for? Do I need to learn about men's soccer? In ENGLAND?? United Soccer League Introduces New Revenue-Sharing Model as Part of Broader Vision for Growth (USL)

Welcome to Wednesday everyone. I've decided I'm not ready for Fall to start. It feels like Summer just started and it feels like I missed most of it which is unfortunate. That being said, I reserve the right to change my mind should the thermometer go back above 90 at any point soon. Anyway, on to todays headlines. Eddy Davis III Named Week 27 Player of the Week Following Hat-Trick Performance (Loudoun United)

The Washington Spirit have made a resounding statement to close out the secondary transfer window, agreeing to sign the reigning Saudi Women's Premier League (SWPL) golden boot winner, Clara Luvanga, from Al Nassr. Luvanga has been signed to a four-year contract through the 2029 season, with the Spirit paying a so far undisclosed transfer fee to Al Nassr to complete the deal.

Good morning DC Footy Folk! I did a quick trip up to Northern Michigan (not the UP) this past weekend. I was able to enjoy my first Pumpkin Spiced Latte of the season which marks the official start of Fall for me! On the way drive back down to Grand Rapids, I was able to watch the Spirit break their Portland curse.

The Washington Spirit (12-4-6) face off against the Portland Thorns (11-5-6) this Sunday in Portland. The Spirit have never won at Providence Park. While that stat may sound intimidating (and it is), it is more a testament to the fortress that the Thorns and its fans have created than a metric reflecting the Spirit’s likelihood of winning this weekend. During Saturday's pregame press conference, Manager Adrián González said, “There’s always a first time, and coming here always a huge motivation, I love these types of games with these environments and as difficult as we find these games, I think it’s a good challenge to all of us because of the opponent, the environment, and obviously we want to keep building for the playoffs…there is no better scenario than to face a team like .”

Happy Thursday everyone. As Talonesque mentioned yesterday, he and I will be switching days going forward. I've been writing FKs for Thursdays for just over a year. It's not a long time, but there have been several impactful things that have dropped late on Wednesday's for DC teams, almost always after I had finished my draft for Thursday morning and called it a night.

Good morning DC Footy Folk! Over the weekend I watch the new A24 biopic, Tony. As a huge Bourdain fan, I knew I’d enjoy it but oh man it was good! As a coming of age story it is brilliant. If you know a bit more about Anthony Bourdain, it is even better. I just wanted to make sure this movie was on everyone’s radar as I do think it’ll win some accolades during award season!

The Washington Spirit (11-4-6) face off against Bay FC (6-4-10) this Sunday. Following a disappointing 1-0 loss to Orlando last weekend, the Spirit are four games without a win and have the first three-game home losing streak since moving to Audi Field in 2023 (yikes!). While their August performances have been discouraging, the Spirit still sit comfortably in playoff contention, hovering around 4th with 37 points.
