Based on a picture of a PSA sign posted to Reddit a couple days ago that warned people to be bear-aware. It featured a cartoon bear, and for some reason, the picture was absolutely focused on the bear's ass. Someone posted it, asking why the focus was the bear's ass, and I knew I had to.

Still on it. 30mins on the elliptical, and trying to keep my heart rate in the aerobic zone for the most part. Helps so much with sleep; I can tell the days where I skip. Also helps with creativity and overall mood. Who would have thunk....

Went to a place named "Tony Stark's House of Ribs" last night in VRC. Nice vibes, good service, and the Bruschetta kept coming, but the staff insisted that the first drink was "On the Mouse." 😑

THIS. This is good advice. I was given this advice by my housemate when I first started to learn to draw, and holy shit, no matter how down I am on my abilities that particular day, all I need to do is crack open that year one block and I immediately feel better.

Thanks to a friend, I got a tour of VRChat a while back, and managed to upload a customized avatar today. (The base is purchased/modified from a @crispyseaweed.bsky.social base. ) It's really something to see yourself move and emote as someone/something else in VR.

Still on it. Increased level and duration to 30m. Going to maintain this for a week or two, as I'm in that lull where your body is spending a lot of energy repairing, and my energy levels are off as a result. Didn't help that today was scorching hot, either.

Something I love and hate about the way I learn drawing: Most have seen the ability v. time graph - I definitely know when I'm at an evaluation high but ability low. But I also have days where I just want to mail it in - I'm too tired or too distracted, and I just draw the simplest sketch. (1/3)

A graph showing the interrelation between the skill of making art and the skill of evaluating one's art. The pattern is such that the two skills often diverge from one another; you have moments where both align and you are at peak ability. And then, just as quickly, they diverge and one or the other is out of balance, leading to internal critique or lack thereof. ("Art High" and "Art Low")

The point being, learning is a two-mode cycle, and that having highs and lows is natural and expected.

Spent the day doing a culinary experiment; Smoked pork spare ribs - mostly had to figure out how to get my smoker to play nice at high altitude before the 4th. Also, had an unexpected dinner guest show up, but they brought their own food. Weird dietary requirements.

I love my big picture Windows. They allow me to see the outside world so clearly in the worst weather, and get so much sun in the winter. But I hate hate hate how many birds brain themselves on them in the spring. Just picked up a dark eyed junco, who thankfully flew off later. Heartbreaking.
