The Fifth Amendment only exists if you have an R next to your name, apparently.

Marxists are just leftwing Christians who spend all day praying for armageddon rather than feeding poor people. They would rather let a thousand children starve, so long as it ushers in the A̴p̴o̴c̴a̴l̴y̴p̴s̴e̴ revolution and the k̴i̴n̴g̴d̴o̴m̴ ̴o̴f̴ ̴h̴e̴a̴v̴e̴n̴ dictatorship of the proletariat

An image of text from the movie "Monty Python and the Holy grail" which reads: 'We apologize again for the fault in the subtitles. Those responsible for sacking the people who have just been sacked, have been sacked.'

Oh, so the 1 dollar donut from Jake's Pup in the Ruff is the reason I'm poor. See, I thought it was because AI & Indeed have destroyed the ability of laborers to find employment that aligns with their skill and experience, but apparently it was actually just the weekly donut.

My favorite thing about climate change is that I've always wanted to live through the bronze age collapse, and now I know my dream is coming true.

This was, without exaggeration, the single most devastating single piece of writing I have ever read in my life.

Here's a question: how do we, as young people, plan our lives in the face of an impending global collapse?

This reminds of Toronto vs Chicago, when it comes to public transit. Chicago has much better coverage, but it carries a fraction of the riders. Toronto runs trains more often, has a safer system, runs on time, etc.

I wrote an article about the way our government and media are sweeping the COVID pandemic under the rug. "We all lived it. Would we have forgotten so quickly if bombs were falling? ... Are blood and guts the only measure of a disaster’s worthiness?" samwritingoutloud.substack.com/p/they-want-...

But building more housing would raise the value of their property. It's a pretty basic economic reality that the networking effect drives up the price of land, which is the part of your home that's always the most expensive. More people = more productivity = higher land values.

Climate change started hammering us years ago. Remember Hurricane Helene? A hurricane so huge it physically could not suck up any more water from the Gulf of Mexico? What we can do now is mitigate the damage and stop it from being 10 times worse for our children.

I don't understand why people are so dogmatically opposed to building more housing.

I've never understood why we don't do this by default.

This is just objectively true. Why is this treated like some kind of debate? The question isn't "is climate change killing us?" The question is "what do we do about it?"

The demon engine has consumed 10 more children today. If only there were an alternative to feeding it more children! Certainly transportation was impossible before the demon engine rescued us from having to walk a quarter mile to the grocery store!

Trans Couple Brutalized At Louisiana Park Bathroom, Then Charged By Police
An angry mob allegedly beat them. The police charged them. The municipality voted for one of the most severe anti-trans bathroom ordinances in the country.

Kinda seems like the solution to transit-funding is just broad-based upzoning. Replace SFH zoning with three-flats by-right, and bada-bing bada-boom.

Kinda crazy that people want to downplay the significance of winning when you're being outspent 10-to-1. It's a pretty well-documented fact of Political Science that money is usually the single biggest variable for winning elections, with only incumbency mattering as much

More on the medical theme: modern medicine is basically science fiction. 30+ years ago, certain diseases were a death sentence. Now most forms of cancer are treatable and you can live a normal life with AIDS. Its to the point that if Breaking Bad released today, Walter's lung cancer would be curable

I literally cannot fathom being this reliant on AI to function. Like, even if you use AI, wouldn't it be as like a robo-coworker? What are you doing all day if you just order ChatGPT to do your job for you?

People really don't get how easy it is to die a million different ways before you turn ten. Even before you're born, just flip through the obstetrics section of an EMS textbook and you'll find twenty different ways to die before you ever see the sun for the first time. Modern medicine is a miracle.

I hate that it's basically impossible to build these kinds of homes today. All anybody thinks about is high-rise condos and single-family homes. The historical norm is to build relatively small multi-family homes with family-style apartments, the dichotomy between apartments and houses is artificial

The crazy thing is that these banks often act as regulatory agents in their own right. A variety of rightwing activist groups use credit card processors to censor any kind of media they don't like, from NSFW video games to LGBT content.

Some of my favorite shots of Ravenswood, Chicago. A quiet little town in its own right, right in the middle of the Northside. Neighborhoods like this are why Chicago feels like 70 smaller towns all duct taped together. #urbanism #chicago #fuckcars

People are willingly opting into the panopticon and calling it convenience
Image of a prison with a single guardpost in the middle, called a panopticon. A beam of light represents the guard watching the prisoners through the bars of their cells. Although the guard can't watch anyone at once, the prisoners are nonetheless forced to remain under constant threat of surveillance, with all privacy stripped away by the possibility and inevitability of the prison guard's gaze.

Update: Did not live up to the hype. Solid 6/10. Typical Nolan movie with the pacing of a Mr. Beast video and color palette of an emo teenager's first comic strip. Phenomenal cinematography and action scenes. Penelope & Calypso were robbed of all agency, and Odysseus was a generic American war hero.

This is what people wanted. They watched Trump launch an insurrection and lead the most corrupt administration of the 21st Century, and then they decided they wanted more. I can't decide if it's because the disinformation was just that good, or the average American just likes the chaos
