Sankofa 🇬🇭 Pronounced: sahn-KOH-fah Meaning: “Go back and get it” The wisdom of returning to the past to recover something valuable that was left behind. Sankofa reminds us that moving forward does not mean forgetting where we came from. #WordsWithBorders

Fernweh 🇩🇪 Pronounced: FEHRN-vay Meaning: “A longing for faraway places” A deep desire to travel, explore, and experience distant places. Often described as the opposite of homesickness, it is the feeling that somewhere beyond the horizon, something is calling you. #WordsWithBorders

A lone traveler sits on a rocky overlook at sunset, gazing across layered mountains and a distant coastline. Warm golden light fills the sky as birds drift overhead. The scene evokes fernweh, the German word for a longing to explore faraway places and horizons beyond the familiar.

Sigur Rós then Daft Punk, shutting it down that Saturday night was something I still don’t have words to describe but I do recall it being extremely quiet Sunday when I caught the first act of the day, “The Octopus Project”. Backstage for Madonna, that‘s a long story I can’t tell here.

Years ago, I had to save up, drive to the music store, stand in line, fight the crowd, wait for the sales guy to grab my amp, then stand in line again and haul it home. Today, I open an email, log in, enter a promo code for a free amp modeler, check out instantly, and load it into my DAW.

Happy Thanksgiving!!! I’m very thankful for more than I can list. However, if you happen to be spending it alone, although I may not know you, please know there’s someone thankful that we are sharing a few turns around the sun together.

Parinātha परिनाथ One who completely protects or surrounds with care.

A serene, glowing guardian figure stands over four human silhouettes gathered close together. The guardian radiates warm golden light that softens into calm shades of blue and amber, symbolizing protection and unity. The humans below appear comforted and connected, representing humanity sheltered under compassion and strength. The artwork has a peaceful, spiritual tone with gentle brushstrokes and a minimalist, impressionistic style.

Sobremesa 🇪🇸 Pronounced: so-bre-MEH-sa Meaning: “Time spent at the table after eating” The lingering moments after a meal, when the food is finished but conversation flows freely. It reflects the warmth of connection and the unhurried joy of simply being together. #WordsWithBorders

Four Spanish friends sit around a rustic wooden dining table, smiling and laughing together after a meal. Empty plates, a bottle of red wine, and glasses partially filled with wine remain on the table. The warm, golden light and simple decor create a cozy, intimate atmosphere that reflects the cultural tradition of sobremesa, lingering in conversation after eating.

“Samar” (سمر) (Arabic) 🇸🇦🇪🇬🇱🇧 Pronunciation: sah-MAR The act of staying up late, deep in conversation with friends or loved ones, sharing stories, laughter, and dreams under the stars. #WordsWithBorders

A cozy nighttime scene of a small group of friends gathered around a softly lit outdoor table, engaged in deep conversation under a vast, starry sky. Warm lantern light casts a golden glow on their faces, highlighting expressions of laughter, thoughtfulness, and connection. The silhouettes of distant trees frame the peaceful setting, evoking the Arabic concept of Samar—the magic of late-night storytelling and shared moments.

Mamihlapinatapai (Yaghan) 👀✨ (Pronounced: mah-MEE-lah-pee-nah-tah-pie) The meaningful, unspoken exchange of glances between two people who want to take action but are hesitant to be the first to do so. #WordsWithBorders

Two humans depicted in an abstract, poetic form, standing in a serene natural setting and exchanging a silent, meaningful glance. The focus is on their shared connection rather than distinct features. The tranquil background is bathed in warm, gentle light, with earthy tones and soft greenery, evoking the quiet beauty of unspoken understanding.

This New Year has not started off the best, as several of life’s most stressful events have occurred unexpectedly. It is during times like these that the BlueSky mindset becomes especially important. Remember, the injury to one’s self can often be greater when another approach is taken. #AlwaysRise

A vibrant blue butterfly with glowing, intricate patterns on its wings rises triumphantly from a dark, shadowy background. Wisps of darkness curl away from the butterfly, symbolizing its emergence and transformation. The butterfly radiates light, creating a stunning contrast against the deep black surroundings, evoking a sense of rebirth, hope, and resilience.

A warm, cozy kitchen scene with soft sunlight streaming through a window. A person is focused on decorating cookies with intricate patterns, surrounded by scattered ingredients, a steaming mug, and a sense of calm and creativity.
